Am I the only one that will practice at odd times (like 6 am) to avoid the 'stink-eye' from the partner?

You know the look - "you're really doing THAT now instead of __________ (folding clothes/taking out the trash/cutting the grass/unloading the diswasher........)

Like the practice session is not the MOST important thing each day. Come on!

Not in my household. My wife is an early bird and I'm a night owl. She gets a couple of hours in the early morning to do her thing and I get the late night hours to do my thing. Wasn't always the case when our daughter was a toddler/preschooler but now that that she's in her late teens, it works out great!

I have NEVER been asked to do a particular household chore by my spouse. I'm on it before anyone else is.

Yes we all have to carve out our time. I've been retired since 2000 so M.C. and I have this worked out. For example; I get the TV remote at 10:00 PM each night, rain or shine and then the rest of the night is my time. My music is normally done on the balcony in the cool of the morning. With summer heat coming I'll have to find another time. Have to give this some thought.

This sounds like something I could have written. I am pretty OCD so I'm on jobs before being asked, my wife likes mornings and I like night time. Since I have my own spot in the basement away from the bedrooms I routinely go there to practice after she and my daughter are off to bed.

Same here! Basement rules! Nobody likes being down there but me. Bonus!

I actually have a pretty nice room there. It was originally my son's bedroom and as I was building it years ago I always had ulterior plans in mind for the future!

Same here - I did a down-to-the-studs reno about 10 years ago. Kitted it all out with new furniture and set up my studio in one corner. We had a minor flood last fall and had to rip out the carpet. Had plans to get it fixed up in the spring but alas. Going to take the opportunity for a bit of a refresh before putting new flooring down...like nicer windows, update the bathroom, fix a door issue.

I actually just had this conversation with the wife. I used to be able to practice whenever I wanted as loud as I wanted (6x10 with 500W behind it) but now I have to be considerate of her and the kids. Headphones only do so much, I want to feel the air moving.

The consensus of the conversation was 'I dont care how loud you play as long as no one is complaining' but the kids never stop complaining. I asked about the stink eye factor and she said it's in my head, go ahead and play and do the chores later.

Awesome! Now it's just the kids I have to worry about....

I wouldn't pull someone out of the zone with mention of 'washing up'... They can do it later, it'll still be there.
Exactly. Well, within reason. A friend was too 'in the zone' to answer his phone when his girlfriends car broke down. So she called me. I fixed her car, tailed her home (to make sure it didnt break down again) and he was still playing when we got there. ...Guitar players...
