Practicing at odd times....

Am I the only one that will practice at odd times (like 6 am) to avoid the 'stink-eye' from the partner?

You know the look - "you're really doing THAT now instead of __________ (folding clothes/taking out the trash/cutting the grass/unloading the diswasher........)

Like the practice session is not the MOST important thing each day. Come on!
That’s me exactly. I get up around 5, give or take, and that’s my time.

I play in a surf punk band with some kids i went to high school with, band practices happen anytime we’re all free, but as far as writing goes, some of my best writing has been out in the garage at 1 or 2 AM when I can’t sleep.

I have a wife and 2 kids and I mainly practice when they are sleeping. Probably more than half my practicing at home is on my fender acoustic bass mainly out of convenience. With me in the living room and the bedroom doors closed it’s not loud enough to wake anyone up. I also practice with my other basses with headphones. I actually don’t even bring my cabs home much anymore. They pretty much live at the rehearsal spot unless I have a gig coming up where it’s out of the way to go to the rehearsal spot to pick them up. In which case I actually just store them in the garage. Most of them time when I am plugged in and using headphones at home I’m using my phone or iPad into the Aux in and using the headphone out on my mesa d-800 to play along to music or lessons

I do most of my practicing very early in the AM. Just became a habit. I have been rising around 5am and sit down with a coffee at my desk, check the news weather emails and pickup my bass and do some playing. It has been going on for a long time. Just finished doing it right now.
I am wearing headphones and playing into my DAW in the laptop.

I work odd hours, so I practice at odd hours. I bought a cheap little four channel mixer and a nice set of headphones. I plug my bass direct in and sometimes add a backing track with my phone in the other channels. Silent but effective practice.

I usually work 12 to 18 hour shifts (I'm a paramedic). So, 15 minutes of practice... or even just mindless noodling... gets my day started. It may be the only thing that I do for myself that day. It's a mental health thing.

Usually up @2AM for work (ugh). When I’m off, I like to practice very early. I put a full range (down to 30hz) co-ax speaker into this tiny amp.
Most of the time though, I want more volume so it’s headphones with songs into the loop return of my SWR Spellbinder Blue.
