Praise Report: GHS Precision Flats

Back to the strings.... I tried some PFs on a 05 Pbass last night for practice. I typically love TIs on Pbasses, and on a Fender Hotrod PWs--but these sounded great with my current cab (Ampeg Heritage 410). In the past it was just OK, but with this cab it really sounded good. Nice full bottom but could hear the mids pushing through. Pleasant mids too, not anything harsh or honky. All in all a great tight sound. Of course you have to love the feel of these strings.

Ditched mine after a few months for La Bella 760FS. Tried two sets of GHS Precision Flats 45-105 and had the same experience. Low E was incredibly unbalanced in tone from the other three strings from the get-go, and as the other three strings did mellow over time, the low E evolved into a thuddy (not thumpy) mess with weird overtones. Other three strings sounded great though. Started to think it was my bass, but once I put on a set of La Bella 760FS's the strings sounded even in tone string to string, albeit a touch bright because they were new, but dialing back the tone knob got rid of that until they break in more. Also, the Low E is more defined and thumpy, not thuddy with the La Bellas. One thing I did love about the GHS Precision flats though was how they felt. Slightly lower tension compared to the same gauge in La Bellas.

My newer set has evened out a fair amount. The E does sound more different that other sets. But I noticed that the E a set of Boomers I have also sounds different (much more old sounding actually) than the rest of the strings that sound very lively. Possibly it's a GHS characteristic in some ways. But in a live setting I don't notice it with the Boomers or the PFs. I actually like the E on the PFs, but might be a long times before the others get there. I like the LaBella's, but they just don't have that great sound of the PFs.

Labella's are a lot brighter than people think, especially out of the package.

Have ordered a set for my Hofner, i have labellas at the moment and they are good but after something slightly darker for that early mccartney kind of tone
Have just noticed looking at the tension info for the extra light set that although the total tension is on the low side the treble side is around 20ibs heavier tension than the bass side, with the very slender Hofner neck this concerns me a little, should i be concerned about this?

vendor sent me the longscale set, as I was concerned about the tension difference between bass and treble side on the light gauge set (Hofner necks are very slender) i have asked them to send me a set of Labella tapewounds instead as this was also a set of strings I wanted to try, as this is a GHS thread I will leave it at that.

Actually i settle with Ti flat on my Pbass and Cort/Sandberg Arona IV , but i have a third bass few weeks ago ~ Ibanez SR300E. This bass have a lot of fun and lot of tasty bass tone with TiJF344 too (before that was GHS PW7200).
After have experience with another low tension flat on my pbass ~ Labella LTF4A ( not impressive with the tone on my split coil pbass , but sound good on Single Coil Squier CV 50's Pbass ), I place an order for third set of Low Tension flat yesterday ~ GHS 3025.
Just hope the 3025 have nice sounding E string which i am less happy with the E string on M3050 in past.

The E string has been re-engineered something like two or three years ago, and is a better match with the rest of the set straight out of the package. This goes to show you what a contrarian I truly am. I Loved the old E just as it was and it was the rest of the strings I thought were lacking. The set balanced out, but it took time. It will soon be five years since I put these strings on, and I am looking forward to writing my 5 year review! :hyper:
