Pre CBS Fender Photo Thread

1966 Transitional period. I'm pretty sure this bass was made from pre CBS parts. I pull it if you want. Just thought I'd share.

Not a chance it's s beautiful bass and I think it's safe to say that anything built in that transition period would likely be built with parts before the change so let's establish a stop date.
You guys are gonna have to help me out here , would it be safe to say anything past 67 would be pushing it,
I'm trying to keep in mind the parts already in stock plus the time it would have taken for CBS to start changing things around all together.

I think we're gonna need one of the more knowledgeable members to chime in here.

That's just wrong...

I have '66 P. Transitional period as CBS acquired Fender 1965 (correct me if I'm wrong) Does that count?

I don't see why not.
I mean CBS from what I understand definitely didn't come in and shut the plant down on day one so there is definitely a good year or so of acceptable basses to consider.

We can refer to them as the damn lucky they made it through by the seat of their bridges.:D

I'd really like to hear from someone who knows better than I do but I'd say anything up to 67 should be included.
But I really don't know how far out it should go. 65-66 definitely should be in here with the rest though. There's room for everyone.

Well then I can't be the type to turn down a 40+ year old bass still being played and loved by someone.

What do you guys think?
Should we keep it strictly January 65 and before or just open it up through lets say, 1969???????

By the way what year did Fender first build the first electric bass?
Was it the P Bass? and what year was it first available?

The first Fender bass was created at the end of 1950. It was a prototype model that had no trussrod and a pickguard shape like a telecaster.

man, some great basses here. BTW, what happened to the appraisal thread on the 62 shell pink refinish? Was following it but now it's deleted.

We do not speak about that which we do not speak of.:hiding:

He went into hiding when that very same maintenance man called him a week later with this for $100 bucks, he was scared that it would insight a witch hunt and people would place a bounty on his head...............
