The 5 does not designate the 5th June. It's model 5 (Precision) and the neck was finished in June '64.
I was born in 1961 and so I was looking for a '61 but this '64 came along and well it was perfect. So I grabbed it.

I need to take more good ones. The lighting affects how the color looks quite a bit, IMO.
love the painted headstock. never understood why fender didn't continue besides money but many would pay a little extra for that option.

Nice collection. The '65 counts, mine is a '66 from the transition period. Is the '54 the one on the bottom left?
1962. It is a refin but original other than the pickguard, decal, and tug bar.

This unfortunately was not the greatest this guy could play and what he played before this was incredible, I'm not sure why he toned it down so much when I recorded it.
I guess my own fault for not wanting to insult him by saying "Hey that wasn't nearly as cool as the other stuff you were doing"

Link worked for me. Sounded like roundwound strings. That bass is begging for some flatwounds. That's just me.
No I hear ya, I wish I knew what the hell the difference was because I'd surely like to know why I'm buying these flatwounds. I have already decided as soon as I can get to the music shop I'm getting some.
They've been recommended by several people, so I guess if there's that much of a difference I'll know soon enough.
I'll have to check back on my other thread and see what the brand was people were saying to go with.
Feel free to add any input or ideas on which to go with.
I could have sworn that your bass had flats on it from your original pics. But yes, +1 on the flats. I use extra light D'Addarrio Chromes and Thomastik Infeld Jazz flats.

I kinda think I get what it is in where the flats look like a regular string where the wrapps on each string are flat and therefore really smooth, as opposed to the current rounds which are wrapped with a more rounded edge an knobby surface yo & down the string.
So if that's the case yes the original strings were flats.
