Poor lil fella, I'm glad to hear you have found it within you to provide a good stable home for it.
I think it looks fine there's nothing ugly about it.

That's like saying your grandfather is ugly just because he scarred his face in the war or something.
Those are just stories of a long journey into your hands.
Look at it as wrinkles and aging marks. And ontop of that you rescued yours from a battered home.

That's definitely a cool site with some really nice basses.
Some of those seem very high in cost compared to others I've seen.
I'm sure there's a reason for that though that I just am not aware of.

I was saying that maybe there was something about them (parts, pieces, finishes, rarity) that warranted a higher premium compared to other basses that to my uninformed eye seem similar for less.
Then again it could just be that I still just haven't gotten an educated grasp on the vintage market and it's inner workings yet.

Nice! I met Greg recently at a GTG here in Chicago at Dan Lakin's place (the former Lakland shop). Monster player and a nice cat. He must have a thing for CAR, he later had a US Lakland Glaub with a Dark Star in that finish.:)

Wow, I would be so happy to meet him and to have a small talk about vintage basses, blues feelings and life on tour. He also owned one of Jaco's basses until he sold it to Jason Newsted.

I hate for this thread to vanish.
It was really nice having all of these gorgeous basses to look at each day.


Anyone out there that didn't post and has one, please post some pics.

I'm now to the point with mine that it's become a bit of an obsession everyday.
I'm playing it as often as possible and unplugged even in the late hours of the night. Only slowed recently due to dealing with blisters on my fingers I thought were gone in my early years playing guitar.
I guess my fingers have to pay dues for the bass also.

My '62 Jazz.

Came out of a pawn shop in Flint; totally gone in a lot of ways; but there was enough there to restore it. Bryan Galloup at the Guitar Hospital did the restoration. It has been on so many gigs over the years. Named it Bucephylus, a mis-spelling of the effigy in the Black Stallion from back when our kids were young. Now, they are adults.

Here it is on a recent gig.

Pretty hot, the bass, the ladies, and damn that lead singer has got some pipes on her.

That is the most beautiful natural Jazz I've ever seen! I'd take tone over originality any day, and that one looks incredible!

The neck is perfect. Body is non original and maker/brand is unknown.
One half of the pickup is from a 72, other is from 78.
Needs a set up. Being its in a VERY good, reputable store, don't ya think it would be set up ?
Very nice parts bass. I really want a 65. My birth year.
All that being said.....
Reserve is a little too high

Just posted a few quick pictures of my 1962 p-bass on Invalid Link Removed.

Like many others that have scored pre-CBS basses, I have one that was played hard. Original finish gone. Original pickguard looked like someone had taken a heat gun to it. The pickup was toast, so someone replaced it with a cream colored 70's DiMarzio (which didn't sound half bad, so I used it for another bass project). Luckily the original pickup was in the case, and I was able to have it repaired. The feel of the neck always brings me back to this bass....
