Precision Bass Revamp?!

This is my P, who's injured at the moment. She needs a Pickguard replacement, and I figured I might make it look its best.

So, after discussing this in
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=444858
I've decided on White Pearl.

And I've also decided that since It's In need of repair I'm also going to do a entire revamp of it.

Here's whats on the list
  • White Pearl Pickguard, with some extra cutting for elec.
  • Dimarzio "Model P" for replacing the Squier Pickup
  • Dimarzio "Split P" for the Bridge
  • LeoQ Badass II
  • 3 Way switch
  • New Input Jack and Pots
  • Hipshot Extender Key for E to D

Also, I'd really Like to paint the Model-P Pickup Covers to match the body, and also the headstock.

Ideas? Additions/Subtractions? Comments? PHOTOSHOPPING?

Any Idea's on how much this might cost?

It'll sound different than it does now. I wouldn't use the DiMarzios myself, but a lot of guys like them. I replaced the DiMarzio in my Fender P and went with Seymour Duncan. But you may like it with DiMarzio. The jacks and pots change won't affect the sound unless what you have now are defective. I don't think switching to a Badass will give much of an improvement in sound, if any.

The tuning keys won't affect the sound.

It's worth spending the money on if it's a good bass for you and you like playing it. The important thing for me would be how good the neck is. I'd stop at having to replace that.

I was thinking the same way, but, would it make a difference?

The neck is great. Out off all my basses (even my Aria Pro II ZZB) this one feels pretty much the greatest. It's a squier once again but it has a glossy coat on the back, compared to the satin of affinity squiers.

so your saying you'd instead go with say SD QP's ?

Yes, that's one good choice. Or if you want the authentic, old 60s P bass sound, the Antiquities. With flatwounds naturally.

You'll have a very nice playing and great sounding P bass then.

I missed the part about using the P pickup in the bridge position. I think I'd go with a J there myself. It's tried and true. I haven't heard one with a bridge P, at least that I know of. I know Leland Sklar had one but I don't know that I've heard it.
