I've owned both.
The P-Bass is simply classic tone. Good for any situation.
The Tele-Bass is different due to the pickup.
I love this tone, plus amps have gotten so much better.
They enhance the tone of the Tele-Bass better now.
You can't go wrong with either.
If I could only have one, between my 1969 Tele-Bass, or my 1966-P-Bass I would take the 1966-P-Bass. TJM

Bass players aren't any different from the rest of the population. In total 5% possibly have a clue. They're easy to spot - the ones who always have a gig. 95% know only what they are told and don't bother to question it or research for themselves. They're easy to spot too, if you have a key to their basement.

Really?? So having a gig is what shows you have a clue??? I better pay close attention to Justin Bieber's bass player tonight, cuz THAT guy - he's got a clue!

They are different, but not as different as a p and a jazz. I got a '68 tele last week for my birthday and love it. My ash/maple '78 p has been my go-to for years. The tele has more punch than a jazz, but still has the jazz "vibrato quality" for lack of a better term. It's more articulate than my '78, but my '78 is more likely to hit a note that breaks the ribs of the nearest listener. :D

Chef answered this back on page 1. Everything since has been a waste of time.

There is no best model, but there is lots of variety even within one model. No two Precisions are even the same, they all have a unique character.

Just go play as many a you can, and decide for yourself. Oh, and post pictures.

Agreed. There is no best. I love my '78 p and i love my '68 tele. I do find these threads beneficial in that people do describe differences in tone , what they like, and what they don't. At the end of the day though, YOU have to play it to see if it's what you're looking for. If it is, great. If it's not, don't hate on those who like it. That just leaves more of the kind of basses you like on the market and keeps supply high and prices lower. Simple GAS economics!:D
