I played a Precision for several years - and got tired of it. I decided never to own another Fender.

If I wanted a Fender-type bass, but better - I'd check out the Dingwall, the Sadowsky and a couple of G & L models.

Carvin PB4 and G&L LB-100 are great affordable USA-made options.
Sadowsky is amazing, but in a bit of a different league altogether.

I dig my Carvin PB4 as much as my Fenders. With active electronics it can be a bit more modern and in-your-face if you want, and it has tons of tonal versatility. Also the fit and finish are excellent.

Love my Schecters, Model T and Diamond P. Great basses, easy on the wallet.

I've been very interested in the Diamond P Plus but I haven't seen too many reviews...

I'm going through a heavy G&L period so . . . LB-100, SB-1 (or SB-2 if you also want a PU in the bridge position) or L-1000. As you go from left to right, these models become less P-bass-like and more their own amazing thing.

G&L LB-100. No question. It's a Fender that's not a Fender, lots of options, great construction and attention to detail. Good deals out there on them too......

Sort of a P-bass Lyte before there were any with the big "F" on the headstock.

But then, I'm old and obstinate and, the more I see of the 21st century, the more I miss the nineteenth. Nobody pays any attention to me.

It's a P/J...... but I never use the J pup and, preferring the feel of a Jazz type neck, I prefer it to every P i've played.

I don't know what these play like but they come in all configurations. As a Carvin fan, it's on my wish list.

They play great! Very nice instruments

Don't know if anyone mentioned Hammersmith yet, but I'm quite pleased with my PJ. Great sound, very light, has features you usually only see on much more expensive basses, and has a variety of custom finish options. Link Removed

I should be getting my Hammersmith P pretty soon. I am very excited!

Get the best of both worlds - P with added J pup on the bridge. I built a Warmoth PJ and I like it a lot - tobacco burst swamp ash body / rosewood board / no face dots / narrow J neck / hum cancelling passive pups / went with Warmoth logo on head stock.

All this reinventing of the wheel is remarkable. Options at every price level and finish & look.

An American Precision is so stinkin' simple, why would anybody settle for that? Yet folks here keep coming full circle.

If you do a lot of gigging, a solid Precision bass gets through bad rooms, poor monitors, bad sound guys, and too loud guitarists. And when everything is going right, you love your tone & the feel and how you sound with everyone else in the band.

It may seem generic or settling for the 'typical' Fender P-bass but the damn things just stupidly (or smartly) work dammit.

I love my Precision V.

I don't know about the P Plus. I have the older passive one. Very hot pickups. Lots of tone variations.
