I prefer the J neck, and I can make my J sound like a P (I use flats), but can't make my P sound like a J.
Additionally, J neck is thinner, less heavy and easier to play IMO.
If you alternate between the two attached files, you can find the differences on the body shapes. J seems to give a little more support to the right arm.

has to be black, in which case it wouldn't make a difference whether it was a P or a J. i've owned white basses: tone was deplorable, they were way too heavy, and they had serious neck dive issues, none of which i have found to be true with black basses. and as a bonus: black works better with tort, flats, and metal.

it's obvious that StrangerDanger isn't taking the thread seriously: ergo his joke. :D

All basses should be grey and why not 50 shades of it.
I agree. It would be a form of stage camo allowing us to play heard, yet unseen, which would thrill the rest of the band. Chicks never noticed anyway. Maybe a simulated finish incorporating bits of mike stand, drum hardware, grill cloth, cables, etc. Couple that with matching clothes and we could become virtually invisible! We could even develope gray torte!

always see threads popping up about which of the two basses is better, so today I've decided to settle the age-old debate for good (as best I can.)
Precision bass. Scooped sound isn't my thing, nor is the Jaco sound my thing. That leaves a neck sound that is almost like, but not quite a Precision sound.

However...
this is a beat down topic here, with no real winner
This is the absolute best answer, right here.

Is it time for another "was Jaco best" thread?[/QUOTE]

I propose this thread be: TACO VS. JACO? Who do YOU think wore cleaner underwear?

Precision. Simply because I want to make as few mistakes and intonate as precisely as possible. Additionally, I play many genres yet not Jazz so that effectively takes the JB out of consideration. So, precision and versatility dictate that there be no Jazz Bass in my arsenal. The name on the headstock determines what bass you choose! Easy!

There should be no both, or other option in this poll. If you have no clearcut fav just sit out and see who wins. And, unless your post has deep, clear and utterly factual info devoid of snark and/or Fender bashing just sit out.
