Preferred device to sit on

So crazy question; what does every body like to sit on when they practice? I’m looking for something better than the metal folding chair I use now.

I was considering a drumming throne; comfortable and nothing to accidentally bang the instrument on (like a folding chair).

Any suggestions?

Either a low bar stool or (more expensive but better) a decent drum throne with a back rest.

Yep, drum thrones work well! Adjustable height, no arms to limit your range of movement. I use mine not only for drumming, but at the sewing table as well.

A key element I use with whatever I'm sitting on is a folding foot rest to elevate the "bass leg" (for me, the right). I keep one of those tucked under my desk for whenever I grab the bass parked there to noodle around a bit.

I use my armless computer/office chair for practice. For shows I use a folding padded metal chair.

I have a drum stool with a back. But at my music desk/workstation, I have a high back desk chair with arms that swing up out of the way when I’m playing guitar.

I've got a comfortable computer/office work chair with no arms in my studio/practice space. Works great. Adjustable height and back. I think it's important to have a back rest if you're going to spend any time in the chair ... which I end up doing when learning new material or doing tracks.

I almost always gig standing up, or if I do sit (rare) I just use a stool from the venue

You are correct.

Step 1. Get a Roc-N-Soc Nitro with original seat. It even comes in colors!
Step 2. Thank me later.

(Unless you don't want that tiny bit of office-chair bounce from the gas strut: then get a regular one. But since you're playing bass, not drums, the convenience and comfort from the gas strut probably wins.)

Try sitting on a large, inflatable, exercise ball. It's fun, relaxing, and builds balance and core strength. Plus, it can be fun to bounce to the beat.
