Pretty nice ESP. but the price????

This seems nice but way out of range for price...

Perhaps out of range for an ESP, but definitely not out of range for a Reverb.com listing. Everything I've seen on that site has been inflated substantially over the going rate.

In any case, that's a good looking bass. It's been decades since I've played any ESP instruments so I have no idea what the current quality/fit/finish/sound is like...but if they're still as well-made as they were in the early 90s I've a hunch that bass would give a US-made Lakland a serious run for the money.

That looks like the Japan made Lakland/ESP signature model for a Japanese player Tetsuya. This may be a high end custom job.

I promise that ESP plays as smooth as silk. If you were to spec out a similar custom Lakland it would easily cost as much.

Tetsuya plays in a Japanese glam rock band. That is the least flamboyant sig bass of his I've seen.

we have an 80s neon magenta ibanez sr 800 that we got for 100 bucks at a pawn shop, because the pawnshop didn't know to change the battery, with this in mind i cant get it out of my head that glam rock basses can be found for cheap if i just keep lookin

If you're an observer/fan of MIJ basses (the ones we typically DON'T see here, Bacchus, Moon, etc.), you know that real Japanese market axes can be quite pricey. This would appear to be a ESP Custom one-off, or very limited production. All the bells and whistles, custom matching flite case, tons of case candy, this is one of those 'collector' axes almost intended to never be played, only collected. From that standpoint, this price is in that ballpark, but for 4 grand (wait till you see the predicted shipping with that flite case from Japan . . . !) there are lots of choices.

But I understand it. A Woodline, 24-fret Bacchus would be my-t-fine ! ! !

These were made in 2012 in limited numbers. According to the site (and google translate) either 49 in total or 49 in each color. ESP can make some very high-end guitars. A friend has a one-off snake-skin heavy metal monster that's worth close to 20k.

That's a high price, but for a limited run, custom shop ESP, that's not at all out-of-line. Brand-name MIJ custom shops can easily charge the same kind of money for instruments as USA shops and ESP is one of the best known.

Not at all suprised by the Lakland influence. As others have said, ESP makes the "Shoreline" MIJ Lakland models.
