Pretty nice ESP. but the price????

Custom made to my specs. Can t afford to buy a bass and not liking it in two months and then have to flip it for a loss most likely. I have/had ESP s and LTD s and loved them, but whether its Fender,Gibson, Lakeland, etc I would not pay that for an "off the shelf' bass.
ESP makes some of the most labor intensive customs by far. If you do a quick search those custom made exhibition level basses they make for namm show sell for anywhere from 7-15 thousand.
They often get a bad rep because they do also make cheap beginner gear but even the higher level ltd stuff is great for the money. I would compare my f-415fm to a $2k Spector. Rex Brown played ESPs for a little bit before going back to high end Spectors at one point. Funny thing is I have the exact same model ltd viper bass he used to bring on tour and I bought it used for like $300. The viper does have neck dive issues but it sounds good. The f-415fm is my main player. I played high end German warwicks for years before becoming a fan of ESP
as for that particular bass though I'm not interested in what is basically a lakland. If I remember correctly Lakland is owned by ESP though.

One of my housemates has the budget version of that bass as his main bass for nearly a decade. Iirc I think it was in the $1-2k range and IMO it's a rather nice bass in that price range. I wouldn't be surprised that the premium custom version costs more, especially since it's the signature model of one of the biggest popstars in Japan who also happens to play bass really well.
ESP's Custom Shop doesn't f*** around. You can watch some of their videos on youtube, they put tons and tons of work into their basses and they buyer has very many options. Others with more experience with ESPs have already said similar. But they appear to be right up there with Warwick, Fodera, and Carvin.

There's something about the "20th Anniversary" graphic on the pickguard that's a real turnoff. But other than that, I think they're pretty nice looking basses - and I'm a hardcore sunburst/tort fan.

ESP had been making high-end, hand-made customs for decades before the LTD line was introduced. Unfortunately, the LTD line is what 98% of the rest of the world relates to ESP these days...

This. This thing is gorgeous. I can only imagine the labor involved, and not to mention the materials. This is why the high-end ESPs can go for as much as stuff like Fodera. Look at it...if Vinnie and Joey started making models with ESP's shapes, and you didn't know that this shot was an ESP, you'd believe it was from Brooklyn (aside from the battery box, I suppose).

I have two Moon basses and must say that they rival any high end custom bass. ESP's are nice instruments, especially the high end models. If Tom Barney likes them & plays them, they can't be that bad.
