price check! 1976 Ibanez Ripper

Considering letting my 1976 Ibanez Ripper replica go. Times are tough and i need the $. trouble is i cannot find any recent price data on these. My initial research concludes that these are the hardest to find of the Ibanez “lawsuit” era replicas and my searches through the interweebs have only found 2-3 others. The pic guard is a replacement i am pretty sure but the rest is original. The pickups sound a little muddy to my ears but i’m really not sure if there’s a problem or that’s just how they are. everything works

anyone have any input

That’s the point, start too high, encourage offers, see what comes. Your consideration of offers will depend on how much you need, and how soon you need it.

Well, this is certainly not accurate and may not be representative of the Rippers value, but for the RS924 (larger sample size), looking at Reverb's sale price history both Pre and Post COVID pricing: looks like a 33% increase in selling price for the Roadster. Average selling price of $760 pre-2020 and $1,012 post-2020. I guess as a starting point you could take tack on 33% to the avergae asking prices for the Rippers above?

that seems reasonable for sure! i was thinking off asking $1500 usd to start and go from there. don’t want to start out less than it’s worth though lol

I'd look at the recent selling price of Ibanez or Univox 'neck-thru' 4001 copies in similar condition, then add 20-25% for rarity...

You are also playing to a small crowd. i.e those who like that era bass. A kid starting out is unlikely to spring big dollars for an "old" bass unless the name starts with F. I'd probably put 2K on it and negotiate or, (risky proposition) put it in and antique music Auction with a realistic reserve on it and take your chances. You may get way higher than you would in a traditional sale, of course, it might also go way under your expectations.

A couple of the recent set-neck Aria Ripper copies with mudbuckers that I have seen on reverb and eBay lately could give you a good pricing reference. Those have been going for around $750 for $800.

Those pups aren't mudbuckers. They're a single coil in a mudbucker housing. I had on in an Ibby Rick copy of the same vintage. Totally lacked definition.

Price it based on what you want to get out of it for the high end and the highest price you still would not take for it on the low end. Somewhere between those two numbers is the best price for you.

Instead of all the I-hope-I'm-almost-asking-too-much research to justify a maximum potential starting point and near-shock-value starting price (which instantly turns off seasoned buyers as easily as the classic "make offers I know what I have" arrogance), why not let the world determine what it's worth NOW in today's real market? By your own admission, you really don't know what it's worth, and comparisons are out of date. To me, the answer is simple.
List it for a one-week or 10-day auction on eBay, ending on a Sunday evening. Start it with a $1, no-reserve bid. In the meantime, put the eBay link on some Facewaste vintage Ibanez/Japanese pages, and any similar Talkbass pages, and then let the viewing public tell you EXACTLY what the current market value is via the winning bid at the end of the auction. Hundreds, if not thousands, of viewers and buyers will have determined what the real-world August 2023 monetary value is by the time the hammer drops.

I have no idea what a good sale price would be for your bass. But I think it would command a higher price if pitched to the vintage Ibanez lawsuit era fanciers as a hard to find Ibanez more than anything else. So the suggestion to check vintage Ibanez pricing trends is a good place to start.

I’d also take extra pains to point out in your listing that it is not a Gibson Ripper. That will save you headaches if someone felt they were deceived because they either didn’t read your listing, or experienced buyer’s remorse and decided to claim they were. Had a music acquaintance have that happen to him when he sold his Ibanez Ric knockoff.

There is a real Gibson Ripper on Reverb at $2200 with make an offer, so you can probably get it for $1800-1900. This is a knock-off, so probably half of that and then subtract some for condition. I'd guess $7-800. But it's a single item that only needs to find one buyer. Put it up on Reverb with Make an Offer and see what you can get.
