I havea Tocoma Thunderchief CB 10 I'm thinking of selling - 4 string fretted, active electronics, with original hard shell case. It's in very good shape, but I just don't play it. Anyone have an idea what they are going for, or a source where I can find prices? I don't see a lot on the market.

Thanks.

That is a tough call... I had one of those that I wound up selling for around $500 IRC.. About 6 years ago.. They are becoming harder to find and sound great but I would have no idea what the current market would be. I suggest you check EBay and other internet sources and price accordingly but be prepared for a long wait.

Unless it was messed up functionally or cosmetically, you gave it away. Wish I'd have been there to scoop it up :D.

A TBer recently posted an NBD for a new Tacoma TC, price was IIRC, $600... maybe $700. The general feeling was that he got a real good deal. I've seen them with price tags from $800 to $1,100. I don't follow the TC market though.

I found my old add.. and actually it went for $675 and that was in 2009... after being on the block for about 4 months.. I think I started it at $800 because I bought it for $900 ... In any case.. the buyer was happy and so was I.. so..

FWIW I think they are a bit harder to find now than they were back then because truth be told back then I saw a few of them on Ebay for less than I sold mine.. so the market for them is a bit more seller friendly today than back then.,. and it will probably only get better.. To the OP.. unless you are pressed for cash I'd hold onto it as an investment.. You could probably get a lot more for it in a few years..

I paid $700 w/case for the one I bought last week at a local shop that was asking $800. It doesn't have the brass control plate like some I've seen but a black plastic one, instead. The serial # begins with a J which puts it well into the Fender era. It's in excellent shape and plays great, though.

Schmoe is a great word.
For some reason I couldn't paste a link here, but one recently sold on evilBay in mint condition for $625. With a Fishman.

Well I guess those guys were schmoes too.. :eyebrow: for what that was worth...

Just as a point of reference.. and this is apparently from 2007 which is around the time I sold mine.. which had the LR Baggs pre by the way..

Thuderchiefs for sale @ 2007

So it looks like $600-$800 is still the going rate.. I doubt that guy in Philly will get $1200 for that bass any time soon. Truth be told for that price I would rather get a new Breedlove Solo. I like the bridge on the breedloves better thanb the bridge on the Tacoma.. I found changing strings on ABGs with pinned bridges a little problematic.. The Breedloves have a string through bridge.. but that's me. The Tacoma is still the best sounding ABG I ever heard..

Schmoe is a great word, isn't it? The evilbay seller was a ... yep, that's right ... you guessed it ... schmoe!

I will keep that in mind. I wouldn't call it mint, but pretty close.

The key, the main one anyway (as always, or at least almost always) is, do you need the bread? Not do you want the bread. Everyone wants it . But do you need it? For taxes, rent, insurance, the electric bill, gasoline, food? If you don't need it, you're in the driver's seat. If you do, you're aren't, & you may get taken for a ride ;).

It was late. Spelling doesn't count, right? :D

Everything counts .

Mine has a L.R. Baggs preamp with a notch filter.

Yeah I corrected my post.. Mine had the LR Baggs pre too.. The one with the round plate..

Come to think of it I think I sold that bass so I could get my first Shuttle.. at the time it was a 6.0 .. or maybe it was the Schroeder 1212L ... but in any event I needed to upgrade some stuff because my SWR La-15 combo was not cutting it.. That was around the time I first got to TB and contracted the GAS virus.. ;)
