price on a Tocoma Thunderchief

Well I guess those guys were schmoes too.. :eyebrow: for what that was worth...

Just as a point of reference.. and this is apparently from 2007 which is around the time I sold mine.. which did have the Fishman pre by the way..

Thuderchiefs for sale @ 2007

So it looks like $600-$800 is still the going rate.. I doubt that guy in Philly will get $1200 for that bass any time soon. Truth be told for that price I would rather get a new Breedlove Solo. I like the bridge on the breedloves better thanb the bridge on the Tacoma.. I found changing strings on ABGs with pinned bridges a little problematic.. The Breedloves have a string through bridge.. but that's me. The Tacoma is still the best sounding ABG I ever heard..
A single ad doesn't prove anything. Plus this one had the pre installed as an aftermarket upgrade. Who knows about it? Also, in 7/10 shape. That really means 6/10 (maybe 5-5.5/10?). And the main point is your "bolded" language.

I am not trying to prove anything.. just sharing an add that had several Tacomas on sale a few years back with multiple price points... and I also corrected my info once I went back and actually found my add.. but even if I did sell that bass for $500 and iot did have the Fishman pre.. that still doe snot make me a schmoe..

I'm just sayin man...

Concerning the Baggs vs Fishman preamps: I have basses loaded with both. I love the Fishman. Smooth, musical, and remarkably versitile in the tones you can get out of it. The Baggs seems overly hot and hard to control to me. On mine I always have to leave the treble completely off for the way I play.

I'd recommend a Fishman without reservation. If asked about the Baggs I'd strongly suggest you try it out first.

Hope that helps.

Yes, it helps me be sorry I asked. Mine has the Baggs..

Hey, it may be perfect for you if you don't play the way I do. Give yourself a chance to work with it before you're sorry about it.

BTW, the absolute best acoustic bass preamp/pickup combo I ever heard is the one in my Epiphone El Capitan. It's the first and last word in acoustic bass mojo AFAIC. I understand it was made by a German firm called Shadow Electronics. I have no idea if they still make the one Epiphone put in that bass.

One went for a grand on ebay , yesterday. An hour before the end I had the highest bid at $610 and allowed myself to go to $700. The last 2 minutes it shot up. It would have been nice to have had a backup at a nice price

I found some flats with green silk ends (can't remember which brand) that were stashed away and now this bass really cops an upright vibe. My bandmates love it. We did a couple all acoustic shows and it was really nice.
1 if you can remember the brand, it would be appreciated.
2 how do you deal with the feedback?

I just sold mine last week.
SOLD - USA Tacoma Thunderchief project bass | TalkBass.com

The bad condition of my bass put it in a tough category and challenging to price fairly. It was really only worth selling to a buyer who was planning to do the work themselves. For the amount I was quoted for repairs by a luthier it wasn't really worth it to put the money into the bass. The buyer is one of the cooler guys around here, and he was keen to get into it as a project... a perfect fit!

I'll miss it for sure. For years I played that bass more than any other and traveled all over with it. But, alas, it was time for someone to breathe new life into it and I just don't have the tools or the time.
