I have been playing bass for about 4 months... ever since i have seen Jason play the solo on cunning stunts i wanted to switch from the drums to the bass. I have been reading on here and have seen that Jason gets little respect. I understand he is the guy that stepped into Cliffs shoes so to speak and that isnt an easy thing to do i am sure. But i feel he more then rose to the ocasion. I also see people saying well he plays with a pick amd camnt play fingerstyle but i beg to differ pickkstyle fits metalica better and if you watch the video for The memory remains you will see that he does play finger on some songs.. and even slaps in this song. Another argument i see points to Anestisia/Pulling Teeth and say how Jason couldnt do anything like that/write something like that and to thos i say Check out Jasons New Mexico solo, and Cunning stunts solo ( not the hardest but definately a great piece) And i have heard Jason playing Anestisia/Pulling teeth Live. I have heard that He broughtMetallica down that when he came along he changed them... and in a way i would agree he was definatly not cliff and Lars Jamyz and Kirk new this and didnt cut him a break. That is the reason you never heard him in the mix and also why he got no chance to show off his writing ability. He has recorded and composed so much for his own personnel gain with other artists never meant for release. When they would be on tour the rest would go out and party while he weant back to the room and composed on a 4track .....
I am sure i wil not be able to change anyones mind but i had to voice my opinion about my bass Idol.. I know he may not be THE best but I still really like him.
P.S. He is also a superb vocalist.
