Problems with Eden?

I just ordered a 410XLT that I found at GC. I know what you'll say about that place, but it was really my only option, since I can finance it there. Anyway, that's not the point. I did a lot of research on them, and played one that I found on Craigslist, but must have been blinded by love. My after-purchase-waiting-for-cab-to-arrive-research has shown me that lots of people have problems with their Eden gear. Anyone blow speakers for no reason or have magic white smoke come from your gear? Anything you can do to avoid this?

It seems ridiculous that a higher end company can have such problems. Many of the cab issues I read about were involved in chaining cabs together. Maybe that's related, maybe it's not. I doubt that GC will sell a cab that has these problems, so I think I'm probably ok for the short run anyway...

I had a 410xlt with a wt400 head(pre-buyout), and because of the frequencies I played at, and how tough I was playing the bass, I used to rip the speakers. They would rip off of the frame. Also, don't freak out if you see your speaker frames lighting up, it's the light fuse saying your hi frequency levels are too high for that volume. These are basic descriptions, and am sure a more knowledgable player will chime in to help explain futher, if necessary. From what I read, Eden was a great company to own from. But since their buyout, it's seems to be pretty hit-or-miss, mostly focusing on the miss.

I had a D410XLT-4 and a D212XLT-4 for years, gigged about 60-75 times/year driving them with either WT-400 heads or a WT-600 (same pre-amp as the WT-400, with a stereo 300 WRMS/side @ 4Ω power amp). The ONLY problem ever was right after I got the 2x12 (I bought it used) when we supplied back-line for an all-day pub crawl. One of the 12's got cacked but I wasn't there when that band played. I don't know if one of the other bands' bassist didn't know (or care) what a crying speaker sounded like, or if the speaker had some issues from before I bought it. But after having Eden recone it, it never had any other problems ever.

That was with a big noisy band (two female vocals, congas/hand percussion, loud guitarist, busy keyboards, acoustic guitar, and hard-hitting drummer). I wouldn't worry about it.

If you don't abuse the amps they'll take good care of you. I've had my WT600 head and 210 XLT cabs since 1996 and they're still going strong.
FWIW, Edens are designed to adjust from the input gain as high up as you can go without clipping and then the overall level is set from the final output stage.
The compressor is your friend-learn how to use it.....
Read the manual as well.
Any cab or amp will blow if you chain it together with other mismatched cabs. I routinely blew up my Acoustic heads back in the day until that was explained to me by a kindly Tech who took pity on the Teenaged Knucklehead who kept bringing his amp back......

Oh, don't get me wrong either! I loved my Eden gear, and the tone I got from that rig. I just think I needed to add more power to it(more cabs & amps). I was in a rap/rock band, and I was always trying to emulate hip-hop bass(808 bass hit, URB, and keyboard bass), as well asregular bass tones with just what I had(wrong idea). Believe me, I wish I still had that rig!!!:bawl::bawl::bawl:

IMO, the lights being on means that you have too much high end eq'd into the amp. Those lights are fuses and if they are lighting up then something needs to come down.

Also I have had my wt800 and two 410xlt for 8 years now. Those things have been to hell and back and I never had a problem.

Note:All my eden gear is made in the USA. I can't speak for the overseas stuff.

I had a pair of 210 XLTs for a few years and had no problems with reliability and I pushed them pretty hard at times .Nothing but good things to say about those speakers . Nobody I know in my area that have used them has had any issue with them blowing either . The only downside I have heard about the speakers is the weight , the tone is great .

Roy, can you please clarify what you mean by mis-matched? I play different different speaker configurations (and brands) intentionally for the tonal variation. I'm not aware of a problem in this context.
Are you referring to matching the ohm rating between cabs and head? That would be understandable.

That would definitely be the ohm rating....
