So I was watching these as well the same time you came across this one (in the Warwick thread) and then read your post when you bought it (good deal by the way).For what it is, the NS is perfect and even with its colour. Same with my euro, also perfect for me, literally. These two basses have not a single flaw that I can find. Balance perfectly fine, no dive, great tones, relatively lightweight, perfect fretwork on the euro etc, I could go on and on.
The NS isn't like a... How would I even put it. It's not a "me" choice bass, I got it because some guy was selling it for 1/3 the price, I mean have you seen how stupidly expensive it is brand new? It goes for 3300 usd. NUTS!
I got mine and if it wasn't used and cheap, I would have never gotten it. Luckily its a very well designen and thought out bass, sounds killer, but the look? Not my thing at all. It looks good, but it isn't my style. It doesn't strike me as a fancy bass, its more of a serious workhorse.
Maaaaybe I am a bit weird but I like trying to see and feel whatever each bass can offer/can be and the NS is not my main bass at all, its... Its like a good friend. I sound crazy
I play mostly headless (have several) for some of the reasons you pointed out, like balance. I then found an NS 5 locally and played it, liked most things about it with the exception of the chunky neck and the wider string spacing, I also used to own a NS Omni 5 EUB and loved the tone and build quality so knew that was all good. So I passed on the NS and started looking for other options that were fretless fivers with Piezo and narrower string spacing, and I came across a Ibanez srf705 Portamento about the same time you picked up the NS. But I came to a similar conclusion, loved the Piezo and the playability but the neck was just a little too chunky for me.
I love my Maruszczyk Frog headless five, the balance, playability, neck and tone are all amazing… but I really want a fretless with Piezo so that’s how I ended up ordering the new one that you saw the picture of above.
