hey yall-i've had a squier pj body that i've been kicking around for a little while. Its good weight, Im happy with the stock pickups (actually has a great bridge solo sound) and i've had it for several years w/ a few different necks on it so it's developed some sentimental value to me. Well, I bought a Lakland Skyline maple Bob Glaub neck from a tb'er in hopes to create my frankenstein which i shall call "Project Fakeland". I really like the flat board radius on the neck and a p-style body feels most at home on me(i was raised on p-basses). My local luthier and repair shop (Scott Jackson of New Orleans Guitars-killer bassist, too) will be doing the work. Here's what needs to be done:
-neck pocket on body is too big, a few millimeters on each side. Maple shims will be cut accordingly.
-screw holes in body are stripped-dowels are to be filled in and redrilled
-shims will be placed in back of pocket for low action and straight neck(an artform in itself)
-part of neck pocket on body has chipped away from former neck(it was a Japanese jazz neck)...I dont know what we're going to do here.
-pickguard and cavity will be fully shielded.
-truss-rod access on pickguard will be recut and made bigger
-down the line I may put a Nordy PJ set in there, though i am content with the sound and versatility of the stock pups.
