I'd recently purchased a USED Sterling Short scale Stingray to be donated to a local Elementary school. While the bass looks near new, it had some minor issues that I suspect were from a lack of care taken by the previous owner. There were some less than perfect fret ends , Loose controls, and I assume the original strings. The one thing that irked me a little bit is after I put the neck back on and started to do the set up, I noted that one of the saddle height adjustment screws was so loose it was about to fall out and one screw was actually missing. I first contacted the local shop, and they let me know it was debatable if they'd have one that would fit if they had one at all, so I opted to contact Sterling.
I have to say when I first bought the bass, I'd sent an email requesting the year of manufacture and I received a response in about 3 hours... I was blown away.
I'd sent an email about the possibility of getting an adjustment screw, and received a response asking for more information on the bass in a matter of about an hour. I'm optimistic that if I don't get a freebie (which would be wonderful) I'll at least have some guidance on a way to get a replacement.
Worst case, I'll have to cannibalize one of my Music man Stingray bridges for a temp fix. I've got 1 month before I really need to get it to the school so I still have some time. (the bass player/Director/Music teacher) just went through shoulder surgery.
As for the bass. I'll say that for short scale basses, this one has the least reach of any I'd played. My main SS is a Reverend and I thought it was good, but the bridge placement on the Ray makes it even less of a reach. I tried a mustang player 2, but the bridge placement made it just a little more reach than I thought I wanted (after my own shoulder problems)
