I'm having problems finding sources that aren't just quoting the one article. Are they saying that he actually molested the kid in the bathroom, or is it still that he just reached up and touched the kid's leg (with no further description)?

If the old man was indeed trying to cop a feel, I hope he pays the price.... but if he's just a goofy old man that doesn't know when is and isn't the time to make friends, I hope the words chosen for all the media coverage doesn't ruin the rest of his life.

Everything I heard today on the radio (a few of the DJ's on the talk station I listen to were talking about it) said molestation. It was described a bit better (I forget the wording) and it did still sound like it. The article does make it sound a bit more "harmless" if you have to use the word. If he's a senile old man who doesn't know any better, then he needs proper help. That's the only other explanation if he wasn't trying to cop a feel.

Either way, my first reaction would probably be to punch this guy out. Elderly or not, I wouldn't want someone touching my kid inappropriately.

I'd have done the same. Thing is, I agree that the father got charged with assault. That's just the way our justice system works. I'll bet $10 right now that the father gets off with a slap on the wrist or less, given the mitigating factors here. Charged with a crime is one thing. Convicted of it -- or even punished, once convicted -- is another matter entirely. Let the system do its thing. The guy who took the whuppin' will get his.

Yep... just goes to show that whats right and whats legal aren't always the same thing.

I don't have a kid, but if some idiot pulled something like grabbing my girlfriend's ass or something similar, I'd probably be going to jail for assault. Not legal, but the right thing to do.

This is why I practice martial arts. If someone attacks a child in my presence, they will likely be on the ground unable to get up. Punching someone and leaving marks that will get me sent to jail isn't necessarily a part of that process.

If the recent gun/texas/robbery is anything to go by, i think this guy will get off. That one also looked "punishment/revenge". Laws are different in different states, though?

I am sure he would get off anyway, regardless of different laws, as the jury would be pretty sympathetic to the situation, but that doesn't mean that if the DA thinks he broke the law, he shouldn't be charged. Having just anybody exacting revenge is not really in society's interests. Which is why we have a justice system.

That's not to say that I wouldn't react the same way as the father did in the sitaution. Merely that I would do so in the knowledge that it was the wrong reaction.

Probably less, since there is an obvious difference between beating someone up and shooting them.

You are kidding right? When should protecting a child from a potential molester ever be a crime. Dad should have not been charged with anything.

Was he protecting his child? Yes. If some pervert has the gall to touch my child, my punching him in the face is a way of making sure it doesn't escalate further AND an act of revenge. It's a bit of both in my book.
