It's easy for you to sit there and armchair QB this thing. You have no children to be responsible for. And you only seem have the vaguest notion of how damaging this kind of predatory behavior is. Hopefully the father will not stand trial due to the mitigating circumstances.

I am not opposed to getting physical if needs require it, and I'll admit as I have before that I would have probably reacted the same way as this father did if I were in his shoes, but I also acknowledge that such measures are just plain unnecessary. I'm a lover, not a fighter, and accepting responsibility for my actions would be a must if I went and beat up on some old dude if my child or I were not in danger.

You should get to know me better before jumping to conclusions about my need for therapy. I am not a violent person. Only been in one fight in my life and it was in self defence. I avoid conflict when at all possible, but when it come to my kids all bets are off. I would defend them with my life.

We as a country are becoming properly trained victoms. Where is the outrage that this old perv tried to feel up a kid while he was taking a leak? How come the guy the started the whole mess is being defended?

I'm trying to remember the last time I've ever even HEARD of men touching little boys legs in the restroom as a joke... I'll get back to you when I can recall it.

I'm comfortable with prejudging an old man who is a complete stranger touching my child, yes.

So you have to have heard about it for it to have happened? Man, you really have tickets on your own self importance. ;) I guess your ivory penthouse must look down on my measily lower ground floor apartment.

Have I defended him?... Man, must have missed that... I coulda sworn I said I'd have roughed him up myself...

I just believe that breaking the law is breaking the law. If the man pulled a knife, or a gun, or even at the very least raised a hand to my child, his life would be very much in danger 'cause of me, and I'd give my own life to make sure my child was safe from him. The guy pinched a leg in a less than dangerous manner. Maybe it was a sexual advance, and maybe I'd take it that way and pound his face in. Doesn't make it right.

It's dead... or dying. It's upside-down land where the molester is the victim and the father is a reactionary neanderthal.

I'm sure by the age of 71 this old man should have realized touching a child while they're going to the bathroom is dangerous business.

I have a mentally ******** uncle who knows better....

The child is a potential victim of the old man. The old man is a potential victim of the father. Some of us don't have a problem distinguishing the two seperate issues here. Others do. The thread was focused on the father's actions. Perhaps you missed that in the OP.

the united states court allows for special circumstances to lessen the punishment for an action.

they're not 2 separate instances. The beating was the reaction to our 71 year old man's actions.

Because in my America, people accused of crimes are presumed innocent until proven otherwise.

As to the claim that groping the kid in front of the dad is proof of the old man's depraved indifference, that assumes he knew dad was there. And if he did, that can also be construed as proof of his benign intent. Who would actually sexually assault a kid in public, in full view of a parent?

I said they were two seperate issues. They are two seperate crimes that will be tried seperately in the US courts. One may be related to the other, but so far as they pertain to the two defendants, they are seperate.
