I have to go with Matt Freeman... However .. Rob Wright is a close second. I still have scars on my fingers from falling in a NomeansNo mosh pit and getting my hand stomped on by some nice Doc Martin boots

I like carrots.
You could post a dozen more names and still leave out tons of great punk bassists. If you held a gun to my head and forced me to vote, I'd have to say Paul Siminon when compared to the rest of the list.
Greenday and Blink182 are as punk as Al Roper in a tutu.
Mike Watt is the legendary punk bassist from fIREHOSE and The Minutemen. He has his own forum on this site.

Paul Simonon from the Clash is the only one I can see on the list that I would vote for. Only a couple of the names mentioned are from the days when it was truely punk. The other guys are the modern wanna be punk in my opinion.
What about Daryl Jennifer of the Bad Brains, he by far is the one who shoud be on the top of that list. The bass line on the song The Regulator alone warrants his nomination.
All the bassist's of the bands from '78-84 are all worthy of this list. They are the ones who made it all possible for these new kids to think they are punk.
But that is just this former 1st generation punk bassists opinion.

I completely respect your individual opinion, but I think you should listen to Green Day's Kerplunk!, Dookie, Insomniac, and their new one Shenanigans. That's true new school punk rock. None of this Blink 182, Fenix TX, wanna' be ,crap from eMpTyV. Although I do plead guilty to putting Mark Hoppus on this thread.
BTW, I think everyone needs to check out Value Pac. Specifically their songs Yesterday and Graduation Day. That boy can play.

Greenday is just as MTV if not MORE than the other pop-punk candy coated bands that you listed. Greenday was on MTV long before they even existed, in fact paving the way for the POP-punk movement that is now taking place. Splinter's remark is just as blind, just opposite of yours. You back bands that are a MTV bred bastardization of Punk, while Splinter disregards newer Punk bands that deserve more credit. There are really great Punk bands out there, a lot of very original ones as well, you just never see them on MTV and it is hard to find them in chain record stores.
You want true "new school" punk?
I think you should listen to Fugazi, Dead&Gone, Murder City Devils, US Bombs, Anti-Flag, Agnostic front, Agent Orange, Crimpshrine, 15, Trail of Dead, GBH, the buisness, The Takers, Dead Low Tide, The Deadites, Propagandhi, Gallon Drunk, Unwound, The Dwarves, zeke, Gravity Index, Creeps On Candy, Sparkles and tons of other Punk bands that you probably have never heard of, or don't care to.
I like my Punk and my religious beliefs seperate, so I can't stand Value Pac, besides the fact that they are sugary skater pop-punk just like GD or Blink.

Oh lordy your right what the hell did this bass player look over the entire Fat wreck band list? He or she has forgoten some of the best "Punk" bassists, does no one listen to any Fat Wreck bands?...you feel that chill? hell has frozen over.
Some of the bassists on Fat are just amazing. Fat Mike's a pioneer but the guy from Lagwagon is pretty damn good.
