curious what constitutes a "punk rock bass" I play punk, ska, and Oi, and my basses
It's just whatever bass you use to play punk with, IMO. Wish I had a picture of my Vox Cougar (hollowbody) that I played way back in the day when my band opened for Minor Threat.

56' Fender P. Painted candy apple purple and cut down pickguard (I didn't do it!!) that was flaking off, and with a real Dano lipstick pickup I swiped from a dano guitar. Missing a few scres, so the control panel was duct taped on...Awesome bass. Seen here played by a friend of mine back in 1987. Alas, this bass is long gone.

My punk bass cost my 22.01$ , yes 22$ and 1 penny.

White unknown P bass body, chips , dents , finish wear and extra holes
black 1 ply guard that says made in taiwan on the back
Sx bridge, held on by wood screws
epiphone Sg knobs
some spector pickups
mismatched but full size pots
mismatched strap buttons
squier affinity P bass neck , extra holes drilled in it to fit the bodies mounting holes
squier stock tuners

These pics make it look nice , its alot uglier in person.
