I use the V2 straight into a power amp. I also use the original as my pocket stealth rig.
I had Amplite at some point in time. I liked the simplicity of this device!

Purchasing a Sansamp BDDI v2 in 2024

I had Amplite at some point in time. I liked the simplicity of this device!
In 2024 here are definitely options, both analog and digital, with significantly more flexibility: IRs, multiple channels, more EQ control. The Sansamp still just works though, and works well. You get more control over the signal going to desk without any arguments about whether you can mic a cab, and if you do go that route it's also an excellent distortion pedal!
The BDDI has also had enough time in the cultural water that FoH aren't going to look at you like you asked them to plug an XLR into this dead animal. Even the crustiest grognard tech in the deepest backwater venue will have seen one and know that they're going to get a decent tone from it.

yeah i just roll off the treble to like 9ish o clock, blend full lvl 1 o clock, the (MOAR TREBLE) presence also 9 o clock and bass and drive at noon and let my other drives do the driving lol
Does BDDI Programmable provide tone of the same quality as BDDI V2? Or is it inferior?

Absolutely! I love my BDDIv2, comes in handy in so many situations, a stand alone, a backup, in combination with an amp, and everything in between.
I don’t think that’s ever hurt a Sansamp? Something tells me that was part of R&D.
The tone sounds the same as the v1 to me. I wish they had a v2 Programmable. That would be the best.
With dirty, clean, and mix with a crossover option, the new XB sounds promising. The cons are pricey and the drive sound doesn’t grab me in the vids so far. It’s like everything they do now has a variation on that YYZ drive sound which I’m not a huge fan of.

Use it as my main distortion into front of amp input
Nice to have mids and distortion sounds a bit more SVT to me
BUT...I still LOVE my BDDI V1 and would never want to be parted from it!
I'd still be happy touring with it
and enjoy old recordings where I had used it in the songs.
I get a thrill every time I plug my Precision in...grab a pick and turn on my BDDI ...Gnarly screeching chainsaw aggression!

I have had my V1 for about 20 years now. I have never been let down or disappointed with it. You can dial in a lot of different sounds and with enough time and effort, you can find something that you like. If something happened to mine, I would definitely buy another! I had toyed with the idea of buying a V2 and tossing my V1 into a gig bag as a backup, but I just can't bring myself to do it. The V1 works for everything I need it for, and a few YouTube videos I have watched seem to suggest that there isn't enough difference to warrant doing so. Therefore I haven't.
I am of the opinion that whether it gets used or not, every bass player should have one in their toolbox.

Not the most fashionable right now but a great pedal anyways. Back down with the blend to get more mids. The newer versions might even have a mids pot, dunno.
I've a V1 and V2.
V1 stays in my "just in case, always with me", back-up bag.
The V2 is my "always on pedal".
It's run infront of whatever head I'm gigging with at that job.
FYI:
To compensate for the V1 not having a mids control run treble and bass controls at 9:00/10:00.
This will give you a mids boost at 750'ish.

I’m still planning on grabbing a BDDI v2 to use for foh and into my audio interface for use at home. I don’t think it has that many competitirs to be honest, at least not that are:
1. fully analog
2. have a parallel out that completely bypasses the effect (I need this to bypass it to my amp)
3. emulate a miced amp tone (amp + cab)
I’m happy to hear what other pedals do all of this that aren’t from the Sansamp line.

Everyone complaining about the lack of mids must not have read the instructions:
If it makes you feel better, scrape off the volume label and sharpie over it with "Mids"
Presence is pre-drive, EQ is post drive and unaffected by the blend. Both Presence and Drive are affected by the blend.
