Purchasing a Sansamp BDDI v2 in 2024

Also I’ve found that keeping the blend no more than 1 o'clock helps a lot with the mids.
+1. It’s one of the few DIs that FOH will happily let you substitute into their setup. I’ve run the PBDDI for well over a decade. It’s bombproof and sounds great.
It's crazy because I have watched Youtube video's of every imaginable preamp/DI and I always like the sound of the BDDI v2 the best. I can't wait to get one.
Agreed. At a festival a few weeks ago, the sound guy had been DI’ing the backline amp provided all day, when it was my turn to sound check, he looked at my pedalboard and was like “I’ll DI your SansAmp”. Easy.
I did the same thing a couple of years ago. I have now moved on to the Para Driver because I like the mids content better. But the BDDIv2 is a great pedal. I should probably sell mine.
I recently got a V2 and I love it, works great for punk and metal stuff
I don't go to any gig or rehearsal without my trusty old Bass Driver v1.
I use a V1 and a V2. Both are great.
Worth mentioning, but the blend knob is a mid knob. The massive scoop happens when it's all the way to the right. Keep it moderate and there's more midrange.
Also worth considering that a scoop means two boosts... 300Hz and below and around 1k and up. It's why it cuts through the mix.

So here is the question. Anyway going to try the XB driver soon to come out?
I was at first thinking about it but it’s almost twice the cost of the v2 and I don’t think I really need two separate channels. I really like my new DCX Bass pedal so I think that with the Sansamp BDDI v2 I will be more than happy. I want to setup the sansamp on the edge of breakup and use the DCX Bass for more overdrive tones.
So no XB driver for me.

This is how I do it. SansAmp preamps sound the best when they're set to that particular sweet spot IMO - for dirtier sounds I use separate pedals so I can get just the right flavor of dirt.
I think you'll be quite happy with the BDDI!
I have a VTDI and a Q\Strip (and a Mesa Subway Plus DI). Is there a reason to consider the BDDI? I don't do dirt, but a little hair is okay.
I picked up a Sansamp BDDI v2 last night and only played around with it briefly. Hooked it to the return loop on my Fender Rumble 100 and so far I am liking the sounds I am getting. I need allot more time with it to play around but so far so good.
In the early 90s, a bassist buddy recorded an album with has band out in LA CA, under the Interscope label. He said his bass was sent through a SansAmp Bass Driver DI pedal, and he loved it. I bought one, and loved it for decades.
The only reason I no longer own one is that I wanted something different. Right now the DP3X is my #1 pedal: way more colored than the BDDI, but it's my kind of coloration. I will also get the Tech21 XB Driver when it (finally) gets released.

Nothing crazy about that. I feel the same way. I ignored the BDDI for decades, because I thought it was ugly, but with the advent of modern YouTube demos, I've noticed in recent years that whenever there's a shootout of bass preamp/DI with pedals, the drive sound of the BDDI v2 is the one that always sounds best, to me. A BBDI v2 is on my "to buy" list for the next version of my analogue bass pedalboard. The only other bass drive pedals I'm considering keeping are my One Control BJFe Blackberry Bass Overdrive and my Boss BB-1X Bass Driver.
Between these and my Boss GT-1000Core, I'm pretty much done with bass drive pedals. I'm going to have one analogue board with the Tech21NYC BDDI v2 and Q\Strip as the core, and one digital board with the GT-1000Core. I don't even use overdrive on bass much, so I'm sure I will be happy with these four options for the rest of my life.
