Purchasing an Ashdown ABM EVO head

I have been looking at a couple of Ashdown EVO heads. The first is a new 600 EVO IV, and the second is a used 500III. New is $899.99 and the used one is $499.99.

Not sure which way to go! I am moving up from an Orange combo, so I will also need to buy a cab. Do you think the cost savings of the used unit is worth giving up the warranty of the new one?

Specs are pretty close and the used unit is in very good condition. Opinions?

Can't imagine getting either of those when you can get a Mesa Subway for less, or a Quilter Bass Block for MUCH less.

Right on. I had a Mesa Subway but did not really care for it.Very nice amp, just not do it for me at the time.

I have owned an older ABM head and now own an ABM600 evo iv. The extra EQ points and hotter tube drive make the evo iv a much better head for me than previous versions. Personally I would wait until a secondhand ABM600 evo iv came up for sale. Ashdown ABM heads of all generations are built like tanks so 12 months warranty really isn't an issue. If anything went wrong I doubt it would cost $400 to fix.

I still gig with my ABM EVO II and I bought it used. Between the EVO II and the EVO III I'd go for the II. However, the EVO IV looks better than the EVO III.

I'd do this. However, if you need it now, I'd buy the EVO IV and buy an used Ashdown cab.

That is good advise! That is probably what I will do.
