pushing/pulling the beat

I know you're a fan of this:) Just thought it'd be cool to dig in a bit and get your take on it, especially in the pop scene. I seem to remember some article where you mentioned pushing the last few eighth notes of a (straight 8th note) measure to move the song along nicely. That pretty much blew my mind at the time.

I do a good amount of met work but I'm curious if you have any specific things that really refine this kind of stuff.

Also, any recommendations of records where really subtle time shifts like this can be heard/internalized?

Thanks!!

I'd recommend doing a search in this forum where I discuss practicing with a metronome. Other than listening to a bazillion records and playing music every day, I think I have some decent metronome tips, which I have outlined elsewhere. I think that's about all I can offer; I've had a think about it, and wish I had some better wisdom to impart about how to get there, but it's just something I've STARTED to achieve over time. Certainly not completely mastered, but at least I've begun to really dig it.
