PYPB 38: When 'a few' just isn't enough...

M Sterling, how are you incorporating the B3 with the rest of your effects? I just picked one up today, and I've got a bunch of single effects as well, and I'm searching for ideas. Thanks.

Well, it depends on the gig, really. On the big board, I'm using it at the end of my chain as a looper, eq, LPF, synth or step sequencer. On the small board, it handles everything except octave (sometimes), od/distortion/fuzz and compression ( ie filters, detune, modeling, phaser, and flange ). So far the B3 has proven itself useful in numerous ways, I just wish the pitch shift wasn't so horrendous.

Finally got it where I want it...I love this!!!
The very few pedals I'd even want at this point don't exist yet so...

Unfortunately the awesome pedals I have that I don't have room for could make another killer board. :o

Here's my latest rendition...

I removed the relay/mute/volume pedal, shifted the Sub D to the right, verticalized the Proton, and added a simple relay box to the underside. Now everything is accessible and upright. Really happy with this setup, but still find too much overlap with the Unpleasant Surprise and tafm, at least the way I'm using em. But since I can't think of what else I'd need (or can currently afford), the board will stay as is for a while.

Ok, maybe I'll save up for an Expressionator and Mission EP1 or similar...

I'm off to the studio this weekend to record a new single for release over the coming months and rather than take the full massive board I thought i'd just put all the pedals I need to play this one particular track on my Diago Showman... They don't fit :( 1 songs worth of pedals won't fit on a Showman... Uh oh :(

My latest incarnation. I am going for bright, gritty rock sound mostly.

(Sorry for the bad upside-down pic.)

Effect order:

  1. ST-200
  2. EWS BMC
  3. Empress Compressor
  4. Wren & Cuff Phat Phuk B
  5. Dredgetone Angler
  6. Ampeg Scrambler Reissue
  7. Iron Ether Xenograph Deluxe
  8. Iron Ether Polytope
  9. SFX Micro-Thumpinator

Heck yeah! That relay box is sick!

Thanks, it's really easy to make too. 1 Hammond 1590A, 4 Switchcraft jacks, and 4 little lengths of 22awg hookup wire. A little time with the soldering iron and some 5lb double sticky tape and my board has an in/out box!

Impressive...as always.

Why thank you. It's become a fun (and expensive) hobby...
