PYPB 38: When 'a few' just isn't enough...

20120725_090306.jpg

Setup for the instrumental Surf/Elecki band I'm in:
https://www.facebook.com/CrazyAcesMusic

$100 Decca flea-market bass (which totally KILLS, btw!) is totally eclipsed in value by the cabling alone! (not to mention the exorbitant quantity of pedals, lol)

Here's mine, small change from before (and just a few is definitely enough for me!). I've had a real purge of my pedal collection, only the 4 below, my subdecay echobox, PN-2 tremolo and BB preamp have survived the cut!!

Really happy with this simple setup for the band i'm in now. The stache can do so much (the footswitch on the left is a gate)... and the malekko delay screams like a teenage girl in a horror film

It's your taste in cables in light of the fact that it's sitting beside a REDDI that is ridiculous. It wouldn't cost that much to put together some nice cables for that board.
Would it cost more than $10 for a bag of 10 cables? If so, NI. Those molded cables may be cheap but they work just great, and in over two years of using them, I've not had a failure on a gig.

THAT BASS! What is it? I must have one!

Thats a 60's Decca bass. It was made by Teisco & marketed under the "Decca" name and imported to NY. I've seen very similar basses with one pickup too. Search google for "Teisco Tulip"...

Mine was given to me by my good friend & guitar repairman. He saw it at the Nashville Flea Market for $100 & snagged it! It had a bowed neck, but that was pretty easily fixed with a little heat & pressure. I've been playing it almost a year now & it plays pretty great!

The pickups look wonky, but sound amazing! Very wide frequency & moderate output. They overdrive really well! They will squeal at high volumes & are slightly microphonic. It's smart to 'insulate' the pickup housing from the metal ring with some electrical tape. Still, I've recorded with this thing a bunch! It's a subtle departure from a p-bass tone.

These seem to sell around the $200-$300 dollar range. You should expect to invest a little in a repairman if you find one (Teisco necks can be squirrelly & the frets usually need replacing).

Changes: Red Ripper out for Hawk, BF-3 out for Polytope, and wireless HH added to BEF. I'll get better power and bring at least the BF-3 back.

The Hawk is crazy, can't wait to try it with the band, or even better, with the new noise duo me and my guitarist have been shedding.

The Polytope is amazing: JPJ Leslie tremolo ala "Heartbreaker"- check; deep chorus with no jet plane "swoosh" at all- check; crazy robot detuned warble madness- check. And that's just in the first hour.

3 sequential loops:
Barge: BOD >> SparkleDrive >> Hawk >> MuTron III+ >> TAFM >> BEF
Qtron+: OC-2 >> SPII
T1M: Polytope >> Carbon Copy >> EP-2

Big ups to MSUsousaphone! Thanks Bruce.

Hello bassists,

I'll try to post my pedal board pics again. I'm sorry my links didn't work in my first message.

My signal chain is:
Tech 21 VT Bass
Markbass Compressore
EBS OctaBass
EBS BassIQ
EBS MultiComp
EBS UniChorus

Korg Pitchblack tuner is on a separate line out from my Eden WT 550.

I use either the Compressore or MultiComp for my compressor; I like them both and decided to position the MultiComp after my OctoBass and BassIQ, for the option of having compression after those sounds. I only run one compressor at a time.

I hope that these images come through.
Cheers, Joel :D

I get a strange feeling you like EBS pedals. :ninja:

Here is my current 'away at school' setup (computer for recording is out of frame to the left).

The shiny switch box front and center is a place holder for itself and not hooked up to anything. I'll probably wire it up next week.

Oh, and parallel blending the B3K and the And Aardvarks is freaking awesome! Though the Aardvarks is out of phase, so I have to flip the switch on the Schism. :spit::rolleyes:

Yikes! Does it show? :D

I had started with the EBS BassIQ, which I really liked. It was much better than an EH Bass Follower pedal I had previously owned. The UniChorus came after I had first tried a Boss chorus pedal. I didn't care for the Boss (sorry, don't remember the model), so I went with EBS and was a happy camper.

Once I had those two, I decided to stick with what seemed to work. I'd like to try some other pedals for fun, although I probably have more than I need for now (that's not necessarily a reason to stop, though, right )?

Regards, Joel :bassist:

really digging that Decca bass...good find!

cool boards all around

should post mine once my SFT (lost in USPS land) arrives....then it's done till that baby pops out....actually I'm very content as of late with me trying to change it's order 6 times already and everytime it ends up the same...

Lol, I have tried almost every budget Chorus I can think of except a Boss CE-2 and all its clones and the EBS.

I had the Bass IQ for a while. I liked it. It didn't really seem as "funky" as other Filter pedals, but I really liked the hi-pass trimmer and the "Down" switch. It was neat to turn off all the highs and switch on Down with the Attack set for a nice swell.
