PYPB 44: ...like Tetris with boxes, wires and cables

Sweet, you got the Goatkeeper! How are you liking it?

So far so good. Still wrapping my head around the different waveforms and getting comfortable with the percussive aspect of some of them with my playing. A ton of fun though, especially experimenting with the Echosystem's dual delay function for wild pattern creations. As well I feel I've only touched the surface of the interesting pairings it can have with the Enzo. I haven't really used it as a "traditional" trem, which I'm sure it does fine, just not what I got it for. Unfortunately this pedal only makes me want to get the original haha, thankfully those prices are too high for me to justify right now. Thanks for the recommendation!

Here's the larger of my two boards. Waiting for my Clari(not) to come in before posting a shot of the other one.

That's awesome to hear and I agree about the original and it's prices (and size) keeping me from wanting one. Also fortunate there's a model of the OG Goatkeeper on the PodX3 live which I also have so it scratches that itch.

What’re your thoughts on the mod?

I don't have any previous experience with this pedal or any of the other various modifications. It was one of those pedals I've always wanted to try but never really thought I needed. GAS for this pedal mostly came out of curiosity seeing it on Al Cisneros' various boards - notably seeing one with an Analogman stamp on it. From what I've read the 741 "Mojo" mod is the closest to the original gray 250. I've enjoyed it so far on bass as a low gain drive and a nice dirty boost with modulation effects. It has a really nice dynamic breakup depending on your playing style, somewhat "tube" like. I'm never really cranking the gain on it as there is very noticeable high shelving past 2-3 o'clock. I still find I get plenty of low end out of it too. It definitely has its own character from the other dirt pedals I've played. I have been able to get a somewhat close approximation of its sound from my MBD-2, but that pedal has a different role on my board.

A bunch of updates since last time.
IMG_1369.JPG

New Fuzzrocious Cat Tail, Catalinbread Giygas Fuzz, DOD Meatbox, MXR tap tempo for the DD20 and a Line 6 Helix Stomp.

The Cat Tail rules. Super easy to dial in on bass. Retains low end incredibly well. I probably didn't need to add that clean blend but it's there now! The Giygas is incredible versatile. And loud! The volume control (and EQ) is very sensitive. It can pull off a convincing Muff style scooped fuzz, though I don't really use it for that. Having a mid control and a clean blend is so useful in a fuzz. Oh, and it also has trim pot inside to adjust for guitar or bass. The Meatbox is insane. I'm not totally sold on it yet, though I haven't gotten to play it out a proper cabinet AND I'm on a constant octave quest so this is somewhat to be expected. The HX handles amp/cab modeling for playing guitar and bass at home. There was a pretty steep learning curve setting this up given that I have no previous experience with home recording/digital interfacery but now that its running I'm super impressed with a lot of aspects of it. The amps and cabs sound incredible. It's also pretty rad to be able to try approximations of pedals I've never been able to get my hands on.

Even with all the updates I'm still wanting to try out a Smoothie and Lil Guy but that might have to wait a bit.

I remember a 250 and Boss DS1 on Al’s board when I saw OM, but I dunno if they were both the Analogman ones or not. He was running like 3-4 amps, so he might have been making up for low end loss from the pedals with some kind of bi-amp rig.

I’ve been looking for one of the Analogman 250s for a while. Nice board.

I’m sure your right. This is probably the most detail I’ve found on his rig online from an older interview article. I’ve also seen a couple of online photos of his pedalboard with a 250 with the Analogman stamp on the back - however it could be a variety of mods and not necessarily the Mojo mod.

After quite some time, I decided that life is easier with a programmable looper, and brought the Salamandra Tail back. Not only for the switchy thing and the re-ordery thing, but also because it helps keeping the noise to the minimum. I also wanted the Darkglass X7 back, because it does it's own thing, which I cannot quite achieve with any other pedal. Sacrifices had to be made, but I'm really happy with the current setup. :bassist:

And for those rare cases in which I do need something different, these guys can be plugged in without any mayor re-routing (size, jack placement, and power requirements fit perfectly)

Wow, great bunch! Your Pork Loin settings are nearly identical to mine (I like drive a little bit higher, 10-11 o'clock).

Yep, I have the gain pretty low. I usi it more like a compressor and low end fattener for when I play with a pick than like a "classical drive". What I have found is that, if I need more dirt out of it, instead of turning the drive up, I can turn the curve knob CCW and the low end start saturating more. Love that feature!

I've been looking for one of the Analogman 250s for a while. Nice board.
Not sure how it compares to the AM250,
But I've got one of these
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
It's based on a late '70s "grey-box" 250.
Retains plenty of low-end, for me, up until around 1 o'clock, then it gets nasty sounding.

I like using it as a "slightly" dirty boost on front of my MBD-2. The midrange character helps fill out the MBD, and give it a sort of "3-D" tone.

Very useful pedal for me, and gives a more "amp-like" tone when playing through headphones.

I've been considering one of those as well! Thanks for the recommendation.
