So I just bought this beautiful D. Lakin 5734 P-Bass.
Initially I wasn't completely sure what type of flatwounds were on it.
However, I've since determined they are Pyramid Gold Flats.
This is my first experience with Pyramids.
In the past I've tried TI Flats, Labella Gold Flatwounds (among others) only to settle on Dunlop Stainless Steel Flats as my string of choice.
Thus far I'm really liking the Pyramids.
Price wise they are around the price of TI Flats, but definitely have a higher tension (which is a plus for me). The TI's are super nice, but the tension was just a bit too low.
They are super smooth (texture wise) and really full/rich sounding.
They are not as bright as the Dunlop's, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Pyramid's might be the prettiest string I've seen (not that it matters). I'm not sure they will permanently bump Dunlop Stainless Steel Flats, but I think I'll leave them on for awhile as they sound so good on this bass.
Anyone out there have an experience with Pyramids?

They have magic in them - the sound of the 60s. Think McCartney and Jack Casady.

perfect timing... I have a Jack Casady bass arriving tomorrow and was looking for a good string option. I have a Peavey T-45 bass modified with a Fred Hammon "DarkStar" pickup and strung with Pyramid Flats. I really like the tone and feel of the strings, but the Peavey is quite heavy so the Casady hopefully will give my back some relief and give me that tone

How do they compare with the Dunlops? Tone-wise and tension-wise? Have Dunlops on my Pbass but wouldn't mind trying out something else for a deeper, warmer sound.

Hey guys… ok I got a questions regarding the pyramids.

ten years ago I had a set on my rickenbacker. It came on them when I bought it. I removed them being the shiniest, smoothest flat I’d ever played although at the time I felt they were a bit stiff. They were the 640/1 set with purple silks.

anyeay ten years later, today, I received a new set in the post as I wanted to try them again mainly because I wanted that dead low E which they were sooooo known for. I love it. Think Wings Over America tone. It’s all in that low E.
However this new set doesn’t have that dead low E… it’s metallic and rings a lot. Also the strings are not glass like super smooth like the used to be. They’re more like the texture of optimas. A very slight bumpyness. Id say they feel flexible though which is good.

have Pyramid changed the formula/construction? Shame if so?!?!

not that I have paid attention but it's possible, my first set the E was beyond dead, but livened up a little later.

I have recently gotten a few more sets, but I haven't noticed that extreme deadness, but they seem to be where the first set settled from the start.

Pyramid Golds are my runaway favorite flats. I am slowly replacing all my flats with them.

Also… I can tell from your photo that your pyramids are a new set… they look like mine, they’re not gleaming and shiny and I can see the not perfect smoothness. The origami poster (guy who bought the Lakin) clearly has the old style Pyramids as the look super smooth and bright and he even says they’re the prettiest string he’s seen. Seems Pyramid have changed their formula unfortunately.
What a shame

Here’s a pic of my C64 Ric with the nee set of Pyramid flats (640/1) and a pic of my 4003 Ric with Optima RB flats which I never thought where the smoothest flats (not compared to TI, Labella, Fender), but they are still smoother than these Pyramids.
