QCC -- the Korg KP3 Kaoss Pad

I've seen the Korg KP3 Kaoss Pad around, but just realized that it's only $400 and now have some serious GAS. It looks like a complete blast to use (if one had four or five hands) and it's the cheapest sampler I've seen, let alone one that has so many built in effects.

Does anyone have any sort of experience with this whatsoever?

The idea is (once I save up some cash) to put this either at the beginning of my chain (right after my GR-20) or between my two loop stations (RC-50 >> Kaoss >> RC-20xl or vice versa). I'm going to try it out before I buy it first, but I'd be eternally greatful if someone could tell me anything one way or another.

I have the KP-2.

I love love love using mine live. Its a blast, though I have a few suggestions. You need to use it in a loop IMHO as I don't think my bass sounded as good through it. That and use the quarter inch in outs, not the RCA to quarter, again, sounds better.

Otherwise, man, this thing is a blast. :D

Much older board picture.

Matt from Muse has a KP2 built into at 3 of his Manson guitars (he's had 4 overall - one got broken). The HAARP live album has some good examples of him using it (no studio recordings as yet though) - in fact, just check out: (at 2:50)

I've got a KP3 I use for DJ-ing, but haven't got it hooked up to my bass yet - connections are a bit of a fuss, as it only takes stereo phono or midi in and out. It is good fun, though, and in a live setting, the quality is ok. It definitely isn't hi-fi enough for studio purposes really, though...

B.C - few questions hehe
are you using the kp2 with a loop atm?
how you doing it and whats the order of kp2/loop and so forth. been wanting to buy a kp3 but need a loop myself. not sure what loop to get though

Yup, its in one of the LS-2 loops as shown. Everything else is run straight into the LS-2(ie no loops).

I have the LS-2 because it is my switchblade for my double bass(which I run atleast two pickups on when I play) but there are thousands of bypass loopers available and even more schematics online if you are inclined. If you want, I can point ya in either direction.

It does do synth sounds, its like the MicroKorg in some respects.
the Synth player in my band has the MicroKorg and a Kaossilator. best bet is to watch some vids of it on the korg website, and some youtube posts.

atm, the only way i can think of running it smoothly is
play segment through loop pedal, save the segment on the loop pedal, keep the segment playing, then mod the replaying section of music with the korg. save it, play over the top.

anyone run this ^^, or know if it works? :P

bass = 2hands
kp3 = 1hand usually... so its either loop/timing/pedal abuse, midi controls, onboard bass touch screen or....get an operation for an extra arm.
