QSC K-8.2,K-10.2

How does the k-10 & Headway pre stack up next to some of the other combo's you use? What amp do you use with the MAS box?

 

I sometimes use the headway mini into a Alto ts212. Beautiful, clear and loud. The Alto is the bast powered for your buck. 299$

 

I've used the both the Headway EDB-2 and the Felix. The Felix yeilds a more detailed sound, but the EDB-2 sounds fine. The K10's low frequency cutoff is better than the K8's so it's low end is fuller.
The advantage with either the Felix or the Flex is the variable low cut filter, as it can selectively cut the lows to suit your playing situation. The QSC's have a LF (low frequency) EQ that you can set
at Flat or Deep. I found that the Deep setting boosts the lows in a "bad way", opening up the low end to much. The dispersion pattern on the K10 is narrower, so it's less prone to feeback.

Thanks. I've been thinking about a K10 for an easy quality upright alternative with one of my preamps and maybe the Fdeck buffer pre. Everyone I know only has the K8 or K12.

 

If you don't need the extra power, I would imagine the original K10's will go on clearance for a little while. At one time I had considered a K12 but it's quite a bit heavier and bulkier than the K10. It definitely needs a decent pre amp with flexible EQ to
get a decent sound out of the K series speakers. The K10's can be used horizontally.

IME The FDeck did not give enough boost to drive the K10 pre.

You know I thought exactly the same thing when I looked at the post. After a second reading I think he's talking about using a preamp in conjunction with the FDeck. For Example,
the Headway EDB-2 doesn't have a variable HPF, so you'd have to add something like the FDeck to that box. That's why I wen't to the Grace Designs Felix. It's way more expensive
but everything's in one box.
