So I recently purchased an EV PXM-12MP powered floor wedge to use for Bass with my Quad Cortex. In the process I couldn't find a lot of info about Bass Players going this route so I thought I would post in the event anyone else is considering this route.
  • So I recently picked up a Quad Cortex and fell in love with it.
  • I captured my 6 different Bass Amp Heads and all of my pedals. I run IEM's and most venues that I play have hefty FOH Systems but I wanted to have an option for stage monitoring for certain use cases.
  • The lightest rig I was using prior to the QC was a Mesa Subway TT800 into a Subway 212 cabinet.
  • Initially I was running the QC to FOH and then also to the Preamp in on the TT800 >> Subway 212. However, that means dragging around the head and cabinet so I started to look into a powered bass cabinet as an option.
  • After realizing that powered bass cabs are pretty limited and also bulky and heavy I started to look at powered PA speakers with decent bass response.
  • Ultimately I realized that the EV PXM-12MP has almost the same specs as the Subway 212 cabinet in a 30 lbs floor monitor package. It also has built in DSP and more than enough wattage. I was skeptical that this would be an adequate solution but picked up the EV at my local Guitar Center to give it a shot. So far I've played a handful of gigs and it works BEAUTIFULLY!
