Quality (lower-scale) Resturants in your Area

• Herbert's Taco Hut in San Marcos, TX (On I-35 between Austin and San Antonio). Lowbrow TexMex at it's very finest. "Government cheese" never, ever tasted soooo good! :D

• Hamburger Depot in Jasper, TX. Yeah, I would just as soon forget all about this little burg, too, but if for whatever reason you find yourself there, you can at least enjoy an amazingly good hamburger. Nothing healthy about it, just wonderfully decadent. A small-town joint that knows the difference between mayonnaise and salad dressing -- and offers both! Now *that's* redneck gourmet!

• L & T in Beaumont, TX. Just ask for the #54... a Vietnamese bun (vermicelli noodle) dish with barbeque pork, sliced Imperial rolls (little eggrolls), various fresh herbs, and salad vegetables, with a side of fish sauce to pour over it. Sounds like a bizarre collection of ingredients, tastes like a million bucks.

:)

Oh, and if you're in Beaumont, you can visit the Pig Stand. Go for the retro architecture and nostalgia, not the food or service. Except for the old cars, it still looks about the same, which is way cool:

Two Jay's deli on Lake Avenue, Lake Worth, FL has the best deli food and take out for the best price at all hours. John G's closes at 2:00PM. Plus 2 Js has an enormous menu. I LOVE their tomato dill soup and their carrot cake.

TooJay's!!!! I forgot about TooJay's!

I make it a point to eat there every time I'm in Orlando, I don't know how many there are but it's a sad thing if they're only in Florida!

Mmmmm, matzo ball souuuuuup......

Ahhh.....Beth's Cafe. A favorite hangout of Kurt Cobain, and supposedly the last place anyone saw him alive.
I did not know that. I've been to a cafe in SF that had almost as much character as Beth's, though.

For cool restaurants that have awesome music there is Jazz Alley (there calamari is really good, but everything is incredibly expensive (just order the calamari ;) .) But they get awesome shows. This year I've seen Richard Bona, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and Mike Stern with Wooten and Weckl there. Tulas - a lot cheaper, but not as big of acts. On some nights when they don't have shows their food is dirt cheap. Triple Door - they seem to have really awesome acts. Seems comperable to the jazz alley, but i've never been there.

Not a restaurant per se, but I strongly recommend the Adelaide Central Markets which has a superb food court with mainly Asian places, the serves are big and fairly priced. One of my favourites is 'Mums Kimbab', a Korean place that does a great chicken dish with rice. :smug:

John G's on the Atlantic Ocean at Lake Worth Beach, Lake Worth, FL has won the award of "Best Breakfast in Palm Beach County" for years and years. But get there FIRST, especially during the tourist season or you will have a long, long wait for a table. Even if you must wait, however, you will not be disappointed in your meal.

Banana Boat on the Intracoastal in Boynton Beach, FL has a killer view, hugely popular bars inside and out and a large variety of food. Boats and yachts pass by regularly for your entertainment. Lively reggae bands play on the weekend. I love BB late at night.

Little Havana on the corner of Forest Hill Blvd and S.Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach, FL is THE place for authentic Cuban cusine.
Good call! My grandmother lives in Boynton Beach and I've been to all of the above restaurants. They are all great. The Cuban sandwich at Little Havana is, indeed, one of the best I've ever had.
