Hey everyone, I'm quickly running out of projects the "need" to be done around the house, and all my gigs are cancelled, so I decided to make a pickguard for my Lakland 55-01! I'm not a natural finish guy by itself, so this was my attempt to dress her up nicely... and the little black dress doesn't disappoint! I did a couple scratch drawings taking inspiration from a J-pickguard with bits of the Jeannie's design that's floating around. And with as rare as those are, this was easier (and cheaper, more on that later). Once I had a sketch I liked, I transferred it, cut it, and stuck her on with double sided tape. I love the matte finish look! It's not finished, there needs to be some tweaks made to certain tolerances here and there, but not bad for a first run. Here's the fun part. I've intentionally left the material out of the description, I figure if this gets enough interest, I'll share the dirty secret! Hope everyone is hanging in there during quarantine 2020!
I just ordered a pickguard for a 55-01 from Quickguards. They have two designs. One similar to the one in your photo, and one Stingray classic style (egg shaped) i ordered the Stingray style for mine.
weird, I checked there before making mine and only saw their J, P, and 44-02. Do you have a direct link?
I emailed him and he responded within a couple of hours. He sent me three attachments to print out, cut out, and test fit. His phone number is currently on the front page of his website and you can text him on that number. Their lead time is 4 weeks at the moment, but the Stingray style really looks good on the 55-01
Looks awesome! I like that style. I'd like one for my new 55-02. Can you tell us what you made it out of?
Sure thing. It’s a from a box for a case of beer. Updated ten design a bit and now am sporting the “Miller” look for now.
