Quest for the elusive Muff

I have a V4 that rules, a green russian clone that rules, I've been toying with the idea of buying a Deluxe Bass Big Muff since it has so many options, but I figure I'll wait until I can find one used on a craigslist flip....

EDIT: Blend knob!! That's what I'm interested in with that one

Sadly though, the Deluxe Big Muff sounds nothing like a Muff.

Thanks! I'll be on the lookout for this one, seems to be pretty respected.

Look for an H5. It replaces the H4n, has preamps better by a country mile. I love mine so much I sold my $1200 Oade Brothers modified R-44 because the H5 wasn't far enough off to justify keeping it around. I still have my H4n sitting on a shelf, for if I'm on set and need like a 5th mic or something for some ambient tone or something.

Oh, and same price point too :)

Ok, the Civil Unrest does a much better job of cutting in the band mix...but...every time I stomp it on I wish the tone was the Tall Font. I can't dial in anything near the creamy roundness that W&C have done. As mentioned before, the SUF has much more gain and volume on tap making it a VERY good fuzz, but (another one), I use the Tall Font for overdrive/distortion.

I'm pretty sure the SUF Civil Unrest is going to be many peoples go-to Muff. Hopefully I'll be selling it to someone who will use it as it's meant to be.

@mmbongo has already suggested I look into Rams Head Muff versions for low gain goodness. Any specific recommendations that have a tone similar to the W&C TFR but perhaps more mids?

I have high hopes for my Earthbound Audio 71' Supercollider for that 70's mufftastic creamy roundness with that EA open or airy "vibe." UPS says it should be in my hands on Friday. The 71' SC also has a dedicated mids knob.

FWIW I have had a TFR and a 70's Tri Pie from W&C and found, for me, that the 70's Tri Pie had even more creamy roundness that you speak of. Maybe look into one of those as well.

I can absolutely get behind that, but....mids and low end? How did those compare to the TFR which has all the low end I love.

The TFR had more low end in some settings. Mids I thought the 70s Tri Pie did better with than the TFR. TFR's only problem IMO is the mids.

Knowing now that both the TFR and 70s's TP have a clean blend option, Id really like to revisit those pedals with the W&C blend option.
