Question About External Mixers

as i've read at Tascam site your Tascam DP 008 is a multitrack recorder but only allow you to record two tracks at a time, isn't it?

Are you planning record a demo of your band all at once? drums, bass, guitar, voice??

a short list of your equipment / ideas would help us to help you ;)

Well, I don't think I'll be recording the whole band at once but I may want to record 2 acoustic guitars and 2 vocals at the same time. I am really just looking to find out if there is anything to be gained by using an external mixer in conjunction with the Tascam. Most mixers have better EQ'ing options than those found onboard the Tascam and most of the newer small form factor mixers have effects, which the Tascam doesn't have (other than reverb). In addition, I could use the mixer in live situations if I needed to.

And what about getting a cheap laptop, an audio interface and record 2, 4, 6 or 8 tracks at once?

That's probably in the future. For now, I need to use what I already have due to financial constraints. I can use just the Tascam and simply layer tracks 1 or 2 at a time. That will work but it's just more time consuming. As for an external mixer, I was just trying to figure out if I can signal route and mix better using a mixer over just using the Tascam by itself.
