I was looking at the website and noticed that there was some "options" listed.

Does this mean that they can build a bass to my specifications like Jackson Guitars (limited to only the choices that are offered) ?

If you go for an L-2000 or L-2500, be sure to order the "K" mod so you get single coil mode. Many report that it's fantastic.

Sort of but more correctly a J bass on steroids.

Factory single coil wiring makes the outer coils active. I had my L-2000 rewired so that single coil mode activates the inner coils, as you mentioned, and the results are far more usable. You'd have to get it done by your electronics guy as it doesn't come that way from the factory.

I wired mine with 3 way switches for EACH pickup. That way you can have series/parallel/single on both pickups, and any combination that you want. My favorite was the neck in single and the bridge in series. It was brutal!

I bet G&L sales would go up if there was more flexibility in the customization of U.S. models. For example, it would be pretty awesome if you could custom order a JB with MFD Humbuckers.

Both of my Martin Keith Elfin 5s are wired up so that with the push/pull switch on the passive tone control in the down position the pan control blends between the two Citron humbucking pickups like it normally would, but if I pull up on the tone control then the pickups pan from the outer coils to the inner coils on the pickups. With the pan control centered in either mode then all four coils operate. Very cool feature.

All G&L bass guitars are essentially custom orders. G&L doesn't really churn out "standard" guitars, instead they are driven by dealer orders. Dealers (like me) have the fun of picking out the options and styles that we think will be attractive, or we take specific custom orders. Lead time is usually 10-12 weeks.

Not from the factory.

Chunkstyle is correct. It can be done, but you're on your own for getting it done.

Well, you can get a JB-2 with MFD humbuckers. It's called an L-2000. I find the L2K/JB-2 body more comfortable anyway.
