Question about limiting versus compression.

I've recently been given the opportunity to purchase a Boss LMB-3 "Bass Limiter Enhancer" at a low price. I've been looking for some sort of compressor, mainly for the purpose of evening out the volume across my strings. Will the LMB-3 accomplish this effectively?

So the LMB-3 will set a "peak" volume to keep everything even, but will it give my highs a "boost" of any sort further up the neck? Or is that a job for a dedicated compressor?
