Question about running two cabs

Sorry for the double post, but a quick question. If I did get a 1000 watt amp, could I run it into a 400 watt cab?

Trust Me mate If you get a gk 1001rb II head you wont need a 1000 watt amp that thing has JAM!!! you really have to try it ...it is unbelievably LOUD. and as for new cabs. if you want to stick with gk the ether try out the RBH series or the Neo ones i have herd great things about them!!! as For my self i have been running SWR Goliath Cabs for quite some time and Have been VERY happy with them!!! They have lots of lowend and are very clear!!! + and not that it matters but with the Chrome Grills well They have to be one of the best looking cabs out there..At least I think soo!!! Best Of luck again!!! Cheers ~Elliot

So what are some other peoples opinions on good cabs that will help me get the most out of this amp?
Your best bet is to scour through these forums and get a feel for other's opinions. There are more threads here than you could read in a lifetime. Then, after getting a few candidates in mind, go try 'em out. The G-K head will sound fine with any quality speaker I can think of.

I've used my G-K heads extensively with an SWR Goliath III (sometimes two), and love it. It's very heavy so that's why I recommended a Golight if you like four tens. If you prefer a more uncolored, full-range cab, look into the fEarul designs. A 15+6 will take anything you can throw at it. And if you need earth shaking volume, two will knock you down!

So for very high powered applications, one or two 4x10s, one or two 1x15s, or one or two 2x12s should get it done. Personally, I'd stay away from 2x10s or 1x12s if needing very high SPL.

These are just my opinions as there are many cabs out there I haven't played.

To get "twice as loud", you would need to increase your wattage by 10X

Running a second cab will increase speaker are, and lower your ohm load (which increases wattage output - but not by 10X). You may see an increase of up to 5-6db

Someone always jumps in with this old wives' tale.

To get twice as loud, increase power 2x or double your speaker area.

The 10x comes from needing about that much more than, say, a guitar to start with because of the human ear's frequency response. See Equal Loudness Curve, formerly Fletcher-Munson Curve.

Someone who didn't read or understand that started this silly 10x the power for 2x the loudness thing.

Seriously...............

You really think that a 100 watt amp into a 2X15 is twice as loud as a 100 watt amp into a 1X15 ? Or that a 200 watt amp is twice as loud as a 100 watt amp ?

By your reasoning, a 1,000 watt head into the same cab as a 100 watt amp is going to be 10X louder.

Sorry, but NO
