Double Bass Question for everybody

To Eric Swanson:

Wow that was like a report of mister Smith when they catch a Neo...My two years packed in 8 posts.English is not my first language but I've noticed some sarcasm ....anyway thanks for taking a time to answer.

To everybody else:

Many thanks for the answers .Today I've been looking some sites of Italian makers. Marco Nolli site looks realy nice. Just check out the Rossi bass...amazing.

I am more and more thinking of a new bass ( maybe because I already have an old instrument) because they have faster response. Soon I'll do some driving and visiting some shops. I'll keep you informed.

BTW I do have a exact sound in my head i just need to find the instrument...:)

Do they? I dunno.... I haven't played many old high end basses, compared to some of these guys.

One thing's for sure, Hawkes..... I'm envious of your upcoming shopping trip. Please keep us posted... I love vicarious bass shopping as much as the next guy. I do agree with Ed; if you can shop with the least possible preconceptions already in place, you might be more likely to find the bass that really does it for you.

Dear Hawkes,

No, there was no sarcasm intended, at all. Your English beats my Spanish by a mile! Best I can offer is my mediocre Italian and mostly-forgotten French. I salute your language skills!

I regret if anything I said sounded sarcastic...those are not my feelings or thoughts. Perhaps I said things clumsily...I often do.

I was trying to share my perceptions, based on reading your profile and previous posts. From these, I surmised that you are a highly skilled bassist, that you have been busy in the last two years with things other than posting on TB, that you live in Spain, and that you have a high level of musical education and playing experience.

If anything, I meant my description as a form of compliment. Just trying to distinguish someone of your skill and experience from some of our less experienced brothers and sisters on TB, so that discussion might flow accordingly.

I am guessing that any number of SVT's would not suit your needs, for example...:)

Respectfully,
Eric

You might check out Luciano Gollia's basses. Mike Arnopol who posts here just got one. I've played it and it really has a sound and is beautiful. Do a search here, there is a thread on it.

Hi there

I do apologize than Mr. Swanson, I didn't mean to bee rude. It's my english I guess. Thanks everybody for the answers. I'll keep you informed.

Regarding the sound I want it's definitely not tha sound of Renaud Garcia Fons ( I do like his sound but when amplified ) because I need something for acoustic playing ( orchestar gigs and chamber music ).

I had " bad luck " when I was studying that college land me first a Hawkes and than a old english bass ( Keneddy).I've played on them for 3 years. It was really nice feeling to play with those instruments and I could hear my self all the time and the sound was just incredible. Now I have very nice instrument as well but I just want a bit more. Just need to play as many as I can. The problem is that I'm quite busy and It's hard to find the time to try lots of instruments. Because of that I'm writing to everybody in order to find out as much possible of different kind of instruments.

I'll keep you informed.
