question

I would think tight chops, creativity, and a great personality would get you pretty far. I've been turned down gigs because I'm 6 foot 3 and 330lbs (human sasquatch), burrito grease on your strings brings out the funk better:)

JMJ have you ever been turned down a gig because of not having a "look".

In a pinch, grease from a gyro will do, for funkification of the fingertips. Hot sauce enhances fingerstyle speed.

Best I've had: from the "grease trucks" on College Ave in New Brunswick NJ. Across the street from the Rutgers campus.

jmj being turned down because of not having a look? you HAVE seen him, right?

No, I haven't ever been turned down for not having a look. I've only auditioned for one gig (NIN) and I got it. I think I generally have a look, though that term could be defined in many ways. And everybody has a look of some type or another, even if it's quite conservative. Depending on the size of my hair, I suppose I could be construed as not having much of a look sometimes, I dunno.

Asking JMJ if about not getting a gig was a stupid question, considering he is a badass mofo:)

I guess I was trying to say that a lot of people judge with their eyes then their ears.
So the OP should take that into consideration.

Thanks for the reply though JMJ, even though my question was stupid :)

Nah, not stupid. But I will say that the eyes judging first before the ears is SO rampant, particularly in "rock and roll". Sux. It's a shame that with music, we're also inherently (forgive me here) selling sex almost as much as we are selling actual music. But that's another subject....

Anyway, what's ultimate more important: getting a gig, or getting a burrito?

Back OT!!!

Best,
JMJ

sorry mn, didn't mean to make you feel stupid or anything. now i feel bad. i just figured that justin had such an identifiable look that it would be the last thing that would keep him out of a band.

Jimmy: I didn't take it like that, I should have stated my question better.

JMJ: Burrito all the way :)

I think in general if you don't look like a C.H.U.D., you can get most gigs. Then again, if you looked like a C.H.U.D. you probably would do good in the black metal market. :)

Dudes, I will eat the s&#t out of some Chipotle. I don't care that it's not "a family business" or that it's corporate. It hits the SPOT on occasion. Dare I say the burrito bowl is dope.
