question

This is, quite possibly, the greatest thread hijack of all time.
if ever a thread needed hijacked, it's this one. hey, i'm down with having goals, but you really put the cart before the horse when your goal for playing music is to get famous. it happens for so few people that you better freaking love music so much you can't stand not to do it before you worry about getting famous.

...although there was this mexican place in wellington, new zealand that i wasn't especially crazy about ;)

My old roommate went to Australia and said that "nachos" there consisted of something like Doritos with ketchup. When he got home, he promptly made some real salsa from scratch, jarred it up, and sent it to his friends in Oz so that they could taste actual salsa. He was trying to bring balance to The Force, I believe.

In Ye Olden College Daze at UF in Gainesville, Burrito Brothers was quite the spot.

It's on Univ Ave - I just did a quick Google search and discovered that the place is still alive and kicking - Link Removed
Ha! I'm a UF alumnus as well. I lived on their burritos and guac and chips (and free Krishna food by the library) in the '80s. And the Bros is very much alive--I went there 2 years ago when I was in town for a game and it's still damn good.

No taco trucks in Chicago, either. But we have a lot of good taquerias with elaborately painted signs out front.

Wow, nailed it! My girlfriends apartment is literally a five minute walk from there.
When I go back I'll check it out for sure.

Not burrito related, but have you eaten at the Counter? We went to the one on Ventura, but there are others around. Hands down the best burger I've ever had.

And how good is Lemonade LA?

Dammit... this is making me want to go back sooner.

Having toured around this fair country of ours and eaten my fair share of burritos, I think the BEST ones are found in street carts in the south-west coastal areas. From Arizona up to Oregon basically. Make sure the cart is genuinely mexican owned and operated. Typically, the less english they speak, the better the burrito.
At least in my experience.

In response to the OP -
Grow a set of boobies and call Billy Corgan.

The Counter opened a location in Chicago last year within walking distance of my place. Excellent burgers, I agree.

yeah, I remember the free Krishna food. I was there until '83. I never partook of their food because I was afraid that somehow I would wind up in a robe, chanting my college days away on my dad's dime. Just kidding.

Go Gators. is there a Gators Bass Club? Should there be one?

Gainesville's a great place - very livable. Too bad it's short on good jobs (unless you're tied in with UF).

I was there from '81 to '90 (I stayed a while after graduating). Were you involved in the punk scene at all? I started playing in '82.

We could form a pretty decent-sized club, if we wanted to.

That's pretty much word for word what I tell people about G'ville.

I was in Hogtown from '79-'83, the four-years-and-get-out-with-a-degree stint. I was pretty far removed from any punk scenes. I was in the "top" jazz band (out of 4 at the time), and I did a few jazz gigs around town. Played mostly fretless back then.

Then there was my one-off stint playing in a pick-up band for a gig with Bo Diddley. I sure wish that I had the pix to prove it, but alas ....

Yeah, the other thing about G'ville that I tend to say is - too far from the water (if you're gonna live in Florida). I still love it, though, on the occasions when I get there. And if the stars align, I expect that one or both of my kids will go to school there.
