Questions about Church Setup

we have "church in a box" so have to set it all up & break it down every Sunday. I feel your soundboard & tech difficulties! Little slider goes a long way on the mains. We've spent great deals of time tracking down signal problems to the board with varying degrees of success. We use a previous board which gives a lot of info regarding what's going on. We've hit close to 100db measured but strive to keep it 85-95. Patience with the sound people is huge as they will grow into it. I look forward to running sound almost as much as playing. Thx diesel for your response. I believe ours (board) is a Behringer SX2442FX Eurodesk.

I think we can still go to 90dB stage volume and 85dB towards the back. The place isn't large; there's no need to make people's ears bleed, especially since we have many "older" (> 40 y.o.) members in our congregation.

At some point we'll need to run new "snakes" (is that how they're called?). We have two on each side, with only three channels working on each side. At some point we'd like to cage and mic'd the drummer, so we're going to need more channels.

Ah! We picked up a radio station at our last service! We don't know what is going on yet. Only God knows how/what the cabling running up there above the ceiling is... it looks like no one has gone up there in a lonnnnnnnng time. Same thing for the cabling under the altar platform.

Thx AirHead. There is a a Samick P at church that has ancient strings. I"m going to set that up and put chromes on it. That way even if I don't bring my equipment there'll be something I can play with. All I need is a mixer and a set of headphones and I'll be ready to go. That should be a minimal setup.

If the Samick don't cut it, I'm willing to go get a Squier CV P and leave it at church.

Very true. Our Pastors want the church to be Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) since there are so many Hispanics in this area (myself included on my Mom's side). I don't know how to nail a "merengue" groove.... working on it. I think everyone agrees that we want to find that "happy sonic space" where we sound good without being overpowering.

I'm afraid this is true also. I'll start with me. I'm being challenged to see things in a different light... I have been known to post some "hot" responses here in TB, and I have been "slapped on the hand" a couple of times by the moderators. So I need to learn a lot. Hopefully we can strive for excellence while covering each other's faults, and fixing what needs to be fixed in the process without hurting one another.

My son is doing all he can to learn all of this stuff so that he can teach others. I'll be honest with you: we need a lot of training, organizing and cooperating. We (at my church) need to mature.

if you have the opportunity, try to attend a Christian music conference or seminar. Haywire (huge local church in Roseville) hosts one annually. Several bass classes and a sound class or two. They are great with questions too.

we have one large snake 24 sends/6 returns plus a spare in the trailer with some bad channels. My old church all was "static" and we still had problems. Always good during a service to hear the angry smacking on the board to bring that right main back ;-)
