Quickest way to break a string (in standard tuning)?

Okay, so I'm starting to get sick of my DR Neons. Not because they're orange or anything, but because I really want the Rotosound RS77LE Heavy Jazz Strings. Thing is, my parents refuse to buy me a new set unless my current set has a broken string. I don't have the heart to snap one by high-tuning it, so, TBers, what's the fastest you've ever broken a string and how?

Furthermore... My son also plays bass, he's 17 now, started on DB in orchestra in 6th grade. I bought him his first electric for Christmas in 7th grade (a starter ibby) He now plays out several weekends a month, plays a Fender Jazz 24 through an Ashdown MAG rig and has also branched out to playing guitar and synth as well.

Know what he's most proud of? The only thing that was ever bought for him was that first ibby (which he still owns and uses) every thing else has been from what he's scrimped and saved for with jobs and $20 here and there from birthday/Christmas cash from the grandparents.

When I've been to his gigs where other bands have played and it's obvious that the other bands have gear bought on mommy's credit card or where a dad is pushing around the sound guy; he, and the other guys (and girl) in his band come up and say something to the extent of "thank you, we're so much better off because we've done this on our own"

If you can't afford it yourself, you don't need it. Trying to trick your parents into buying new strings because of something you've read on here is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read on TB.

Best yet, put down the damn computer and go practice... Using your DR's.

I only ever break strings if I get really into a slap/pop jam (emphasise on the pop). If you're a bad enough dude to rip the strings off your bass in pure musical fury then maybe you deserve a new set of strings, but really you should buy them yourself.

Do you play gigs? Then buy it with gig money. If you don't, who the hell cares if your strings are a little old?

I've never had my parents buy me strings unless they were for some reason feeling generous and offered. How old are you? Just get a job. I'm a busboy and I make on average $50 a night. It's not hard, dude.

EDIT: for the record, this might not be a matter of parents being in a tough financial situation. My dad sincerely believe that a set is only done when a string snaps, which when it comes to wanting bright sounding rounds is nonsense.

Oh and one more thing. Kid, when you get those roto 77's, don't complain about wanting new strings. I've been playing 77's for almost a year now, the same set, and they're still the best sounding strings I've ever played.

Here's the best idea: send the whole bass to me, and I'LL break the strings for you. ... when I also break the neck and bust up the body, all the while wishing I could do the same to you for being a spoiled, whiney little B!TCH.

Go make yourself invisible, indeed.
