Quilter? Anybody know this brand?

I would also like to say in response to an earlier post. I do not believe this amp has a fan, so fan noise should not be an issue.

I had the BB800, and it was noticeable. Not nearly as loud as a Walkabout or Ashdown ABM amp (not much is), but it's louder than most other Class D amps I have used. Not really an issue, though, and wouldn't deter me from buying another.

I tried the BB802 in a store and thought it was an improvement over the 800.
It's a great amp. And if you got the combo for an even lower price than what was previously mentioned, it's a killer deal.

I am sure you are correct. I never noticed the fan noise and it sounded wonderful with my Tagima, so I made that move.

Put it on layaway. It pays to be a regular because he took a good bit off the list price for me.

Even though I chose Mesa, given the choice between the Quilter and Fender Rumble, I would choose Quilter every time. Glad you're getting a great amp.

I ended up going with the Mesa D350. It's plenty loud and gives me a little more character than I felt the Quilter had. Alas, it is not available as a combo.

I may end up getting a Fender Rumble 500 because it is $250 cheaper new. I also have a bass upgrade planned, so I could save a bit, and not stretch my budget too much.

Sounds like you went for the Quilter? IMHO, no comparison, the Rumble is not in the same league.

Good Dr.....it's an 800 watt head. There is surely a fan in there, and it's thermostatically controlled

I used an 800 for a few years, it has a fan but it is very quiet. For home practice and gigs, it was a non-issue for me.

Also, when it is mounted down inside the cabinet, any noise is even less audible. My Ampeg Portaflexes and Pros rack mounted were louder fwiw.

I got a bb800 a few years back as a backup to leave in the trunk used it for the occasional rehearsal. Last Friday, I spent some time dialing in the eq for the first time. With a passive bass I found that there is an svt like grit at 12-1 o'clock on the gain knob and the amp has tons of headroom.
So, I gigged with it Friday night and it was awesome!

I had a Quilter BB800 early edition. It was a fine bass head. I traded for a WD800, but the Quilter was very good as well. Lots of power and once you got used to the EQ it was reasonably versatile.

Yeah, I definitely like the controls on the 800. Very flexible setup, especially with pedal based preamps on the floor.

Currently, 100% of my power amplification solutions are via Quilter. And that's been the case for ~4 years, with no end in sight heh.

A friend of mine working at a Music Go Round had brought some Quilter amps in, but instead of fully checking them in, he first let me know of the BB800 in that mix. With the chance to test one out and buy it from him at purchase cost (probably a grey area here but I know we didn't take anything from the store), I acquired at a price I could actually swing an amp that feels like my long-term solution.

Later, I wanted a secondary amp that could easily double as a recording preamp and travel practice headphone amp, and that could add some squish and dirt... so I held out for an insane deal on an InterBass on the 'verb.


The flat settings are clean and neutral on the BB800, but just... super nice. Very high quality components inside, and it makes a great platform for pedal preamp solutions as well as a capable sculptor of tone for the performance space. The InterBass noon settings are NOT flat or neutral ha! but are still super nice.

This past weekend, I had a "nightmare" scenario of being in a collegiate dive bar with no PA support for the bass. In sort of a corner space in a converted ancient house (the Veranda on Crescent Ave in Midtown for my Atlanta-familiar folks), I had to make it happen unaided. Middle dials 4-5 clicks to the right, and Gain & Master both up to maybe 70%? (far higher than I've ever had to set it), the BB800 drove my Audiokinesis Hathor 1203 like a skilled jockey guiding their trusty steed to certain victory. It was very sweaty, but ultimately a good time, and reportedly very well balanced out in the room.
