Quilter? Anybody know this brand?

Whether I buy the Quilter or not, I would rather have a small amp I could use for gigs than a small amp that is only good for practice at home.

Quilter doesn't get the accolades that some brands, Mesa in particular, get around here, but every time I've played through a Quilter amp I've been impressed. And also I've never heard of reliability issues, etc.

I ended up going with the Mesa D350. It's plenty loud and gives me a little more character than I felt the Quilter had. Alas, it is not available as a combo.

I have no experience with that combo but their PA's are wonderful.
I recently got a Mark Bass combo 1x12. Paid $950 new, sometimes $750 on sale.
It is a really good combo 300 Watts @ 8 ohms 500 W @ 4 ohms. 28 lbs.
That Quilter seems interesting.

I first saw a Quilter bass amp in 1974 at a multi-band concert in Southern California. It really stood out visually being a dark maroon color and sounded good too.

My usual setup is a Mesa Subway DI -> Quilter BB800.
So much headroom and clarity from the Quilter.

I am huge fan of Quilter/QSC gear...built like a tank, user-friendly and reliable, and top-notch sound quality!

I have the 802/110 combo--it KILLS. P. Quilter confirmed for me that the low freq drivers are not off the shelf-they have much higher power handling capacity than most and can actually handle the full power of those heads at 8 Ohms. They sound superb and are/were a bargain...the tradeoffs as I see em are the Walmart quality handle, lack of speakon input and a little more weight than boutique offerings. IME the sound and power handling are on par with other great cabs like Mesa.

I went that route too and the D-350 is quiet as a mouse. No fan/thermally cooled. PLENTY of power for home AND gigging.

....the 800 & 802 heads are no longer made as there's a new version (taking forever) to be released.....routine used price for the 800 head is about 500 or even less, a bit more for the 802. The 112 cabs used goes for about 500ish but shipping is a bear to deal with.

I have been using the BB800 with a variety of cabs and basses for about 5 years. I agree with how the 800 have been described in this thread. Clean, loud, and neutral. Great platform for any sound you care to achieve through a preamp. Can absolutely achieve a monstrous, sledgehammer type of sound. I’m planning to drop the hammer with this rig tonight.

I use the 800 bass block with a Audio Kinesis 1505 The only draw back is the DI out go's up and down with the volume control,it drives my sound guy nuts.

It has a ton of bottom, but is also bright, with lots of clarity, just like I like it. It is pretty expensive for a used combo. It think it is small batch/boutique. I would love to hear from anybody who has experience with this brand.

I was lucky to get a Quilter BB802 before they stopped exporting it to the EU. I run it into a Barefaced Big Baby 2, which I got hold of before Brexit became effective. For me it’s the rig to end it all. The only thing I regret is having not bought a second Big Baby 2

I bought a Quilter guitar head - 50 watts, super compact. Sounds decent. My friend has one of their combo amps which sounds great.

edit: I have the “101 Mini Reverb”. Made in China.

I have heard some very good known guitarists play through quilters and they sound very much like a tube amp.

I had my Bass Dock 12 in the next room while moving it around, so I'm sharing a photo. It's so cool to carry the BB like an integrated back pack. Ditto from me on the performance.
